If a person was baptized at a church that believes it to be "only a symbolic act" or if they were baptized at a church that believes they share the same god with the jews and the muslims, then simply put they were not Baptized under the God of the Christians. It is extremely short-sighted to chrismate and not fully Baptize.

I always agreed with you on Baptism. It was maybe from a selfish standpoint originally because I “wanted” to be baptized. But this is the first time I understood what you were always saying: If we accept a heterodox baptism, we are actually saying they are part of the Church because you can’t separate Baptism from the Church and faith. Glory to God, my Priest baptized me last December…..

It's purely oikonomia if you ask me. Most parishes don't have baptismal fonts suited for adults, especially those with mostly cradle orthodox congregations. It's a tough position to be in as a catechumen: I wouldn't want to be disobedient to my spiritual father either

"Baptism" outside the Church is not baptism. The Church is one. It baptizes. The Holy Scripture is one, the Orthodox Church, that is, the Lord, through the saints, the apostles, gave it to us.

I've had some discussions about this issue. (I am still a Catechumen, and will be Baptized soon). My concern for those accepted into Holy Orthodoxy by Chrismation and not Baptism is: What were they Baptized into?

One would assume that if you are Baptized, you are Baptized into the one True, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church... just as the Creed Affirms. Wherever there is a valid Baptism, there is also the Orthodox Church.

So, if I can receive the fulness of Baptism from a given priest, then I should also be able to be Chrismated and receive the Euchrist from said priest as well.

Many Orthodox converts are received into the Church from Roman Catholicism by Chrismation only. By this logic, they should also be able to receive the Euchrist as well from Rome... but we can't.

So, I still don't understand why some of the Sacraments can be received outside the Church, and some can only be received inside the Church.

What if my parents are Muslim and i want to learn more about Orthodoxy, I'm limited on your channel because I'm 16 and don't have a credit card.
Wouldn't it be more correct to make ot optional, so that all who would like to learn more be able to?

Father it’s very easy for you to just say “we need to baptize everyone” when a disproportionate amount of us have already been received via chrismation

I was baptized as an infant in the Lutheran church; I left the church at 18.  
In my early 30s I wanted to rekindle my spiritual life, looked at the Lutherans and rejected them, and became a Buddhist.
Now in my 60s I’ve been guided to the Orthodox Church and recently became a catechumen.
I pray that I will receive what I believe will be my first baptism next spring.

The Lutherans are TWO schisms away from the One True Church, and they say the Filioque.

As a side note St. Serephim Rose was crismated. If you were brought into the church through Crismation and not baptism this does invalidate the fact that you are part of the Orthodox Church as you are able to receive communion and the other sacraments . God bless.

What does a zealous convert do when their priest only chrismates if they've come from 1 immersion protestantism?

Okay… so I was baptized in an Oriental Orthodox Church. Now, I am in an (Greek) Eastern Orthodox Church and communing of course.

I was already Chrismated into the  Greek Orthodox Church.

I was triple immersed in the Name of The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit (as an Oriental).

So am I now supposed to request from my priest that he baptize me, even after my Chrismation?

Saint Ignatius was very clear, if your church is schismatic, your sacraments are no longer valid. That clearly covers baptism.

The Russian Orthodox Church doesn’t do triple emersions. Are their baptism not valid?
