ABC News In-depth

193,514 views

In 2007, four people disappeared from a blue farm house on the outskirts of the Western Australian town of Nannup, leaving behind the scatterings of a life, a note pinned to the door and a question: was the disappearance a choice... or murder?

In this true crime podcast, host Dominique Bayens starts unpicking the rumours of cults, hidden identities and bizarre behavior.

I remember seeing this case on the news when I was the kid and never heard or seen anything since… I’m so glad they’re getting talked about again. Hopefully this can lead to something.

A vulnerable young woman and her beautiful little girl. A controlling man suffering from a psychosis. We have seen this before. So very tragic.

I was an electrician...someone hired me to remove all the power in their house because they said it was hurting them in some way.
A first for me.

Poor Chantelle maybe she didnt realise Simon was dangerous. She could have told the moms group and made an escape plan. But she'd only got as far as knowing she had to tiptoe around him and his rules.😢

Lived there for years. One thing I can say with certainty. There's a lot of dense forest around nannup. Meaning that bodies could be almost impossible to find.

A good young reporter. I haven't seen her before, but I look forward to seeing her rise through the ABC ranks.

It would be great if any new info could lead to finding these missing people.

As a West Australian, Nannup is magic mushroom country.

Has this been looked into?

Good for Dominique for investigating and bringing this to the public!! Keep it up!!❤❤❤❤❤❤

Sounds like Simon had some form of paranoid psychosis.

@lilianmcguigan9240 6 months ago

From what I know, strong EMF emissions can affect our bodies, but I'm talking about living under huge electrical towers, not the usual currents that run through homes. I wish people would go off and indulge in their own derangement, and leave other people out of it. But then, it wouldn't be a story.

It's got a bit of a Heaven's Gate feel to it.

I already listened to this on the ABC listen app and was thinking this would be better to watch as a series and 2 days later my wish was granted 🙏🏼 excellent production

4 flights to Brazil back then would have been $20,000 just for flights . They didnt work . They wouldn't have got far on centerlink

@ClintP-j8f 6 months ago

Wow I lived down that way for 20+ years and dont recall ever hearing this story......

I remember this story and I believe that Simon was a cooker long before the word 'cooker' became part of the Australian venicular. I believe that Simon murdered Chantelle and the children and then himself. It takes a very sophisticated level of planning to purposely disappear. There's no proof of life, no contact with any government services (Medicare, Centrelink etc), no passport, driver's licences, no contact with friends or family, no activity on their bank accounts. They're all most certainly deceased and their remains could be anywhere and will probably never be located.
