Willpower is a terrible weight-loss strategy. There’s something far more reliable — and almost nobody talks about it.
In this video, I’m breaking down the power of constraints and how they can make sticking to a healthy diet dramatically easier.
Constraints are like guardrails. They reduce decision fatigue, simplify your food environment, and help you stop relying on motivation and willpower every time you decide what to eat.
THE POWER OF CONSTRAINTS — QUICK GUIDE
Here are a few simple constraints you can experiment with:
✓ Keep highly processed trigger foods out of your home
✓ Choose 3–5 simple meals and repeat them often
✓ Create a default breakfast or lunch
✓ Decide what you’re having for dinner earlier in the day
✓ Shop from a simple, repeatable grocery list
✓ Keep easy whole-food meals available before you get hungry
✓ Decide ahead of time when and where you’ll eat restaurant meals
✓ Create clear boundaries around foods or situations that repeatedly derail you
✓ Reduce unnecessary food decisions wherever you can
✓ Experiment, assess what works, and adjust your constraints as needed
The goal isn’t to create more restriction. It’s to create fewer decisions.
When your healthy choices are already decided, you don't have to keep winning the same argument with yourself over and over again.
