I am considering the AIYIMA T20 tube preamp, but I would like to understand if it is suitable for a more revealing Hi-Fi system, not only budget Class D setups.
My current system is:
WiiM Pro streamer → Wadia 121 DAC → Atoll IN100 Signature used as a power amp → Dynaudio Focus 160 speakers.
In the future, I also plan to add a REL HT/1003 MKII subwoofer.
My preferred sound is sweet but clean, with good separation, wide and deep soundstage, 3D imaging, and open high frequencies. I do not like hazy, muddy, overly warm, or rolled-off sound.
Most reviews I see use these affordable tube preamps with Class D amplifiers. Have you tested the AIYIMA T20, or similar affordable Chinese tube preamps, with a good Class AB amplifier or a more revealing system?
My main concerns are:
Will it become a bottleneck in a system like mine?
Does it keep good detail, dynamics, separation, and bass control?
Is the noise floor low enough for serious Hi-Fi listening?
Does it add real depth and sweetness, or just coloration?
Would you recommend it for my type of system, or should I look at a better tube preamp such as a Cary SLP-90 clone.
I would really appreciate your honest opinion. Thanks
One question: the A20 cannot be used in mono? As in pair two?.
Regardless I'll use it with the A07 max
