I use a Gustard R26II with a iPad->hqplayer desktop front-end. I use Apple Music or tidal into hqplayer desktop on my MacBook Air M2 upscaling to dsd512 into the R26II hqplayer NAA input. The result is pretty freaking awesome. I did this just for grins as an experiment, and am very glad I did. The results are better than a stand-alone streamer, and the solution is modular so I’m less prone to tech obsolescence.

I started with a smsl su1 and moved to a modest fosi zd3 because it's fully balanced with xlr , hdmi and alot of in and outs. It also has a remote and can be used as pre amp which can be turned off . I also swapped out the op amps to discrete, upgraded to an external power supply feeding into a capistor filter bank into the dac. The reason I bought it because I got ot on sale and new i could upgrade as i got extra money. I am not going to keep chasing until I can really move up to something like a denefrips.

I have the SMSL SU01 and it sounds much better than the internal dac in my cd jukebox. And it only cost me $79

I'm using a Merason frérot DAC with the POW1 power supply that I bought 2 years ago on US Audio Mart for $1400. Current price for both is $3500! It's a simple DAC with no hidden menus, only an input selector switch. I'm using it with a Teac PD-505T CD transport. It sounds good to me which is all that matters. I also run my TV through it.

4:31 .. 5:15 .. 5:45 … Thanks again for using a few clips from my channel👍 It helps others see the gear chain / wire hookups and hear some music samples to get some form of idea what these products do❤️ Thank You for providing valuable knowledge that newcomers as well as old timers like me can use to make wise purchases.. I have a vintage vinyl/analog system (Kenwood, Advent, Akai, Fluance) in the living room that I love. Just for kicks I added a WiiM mini streamer so I could stream music when desired. I liked the convenience but the sound? Not so much. Was flat, shrill, lifeless nothing like the great sound coming off vinyl. So I added a SMSL SU-1 between the streamer and the receiver. WOW. The sound came alive, with depth and precision, deeper and more crisp bass and a more detailed and larger sound stage. To my ear music streamed from Spotify thru this system sounds better than my much more expensive digital system in the media room (Denon receiver with built in streaming feeding KEF speakers). Highly recommend the WiiM/SMSL combo for anyone looking to add digital music/streaming to a vintage receiver.

I have the Yamaha RX-V1065 which uses the Burr-Brown 192 kHz / 24-bit digital-to-analog converters.I very rarely play CD's but I do play Flac files through my Yamaha and my Sony BDP- S3700 Blu-ray Player. I use the HDMI output on the Blu-ray. I know that I could output the Blu-ray player to a separate DAC but does it make sense 🤔. Also is there a DAC that has a screen that can play files off my Flash drive or a external Hard Drive 🤔

I'm about to pull the trigger on a K17 r2r and not just for the DAC but for the headphone amp and rudimentary streaming and pre-amp capabilities. It just seems like a very well made and designed swiss army knife audio component.

I'm asking you about the best DAC for an old audio system from the seventies.

All digital devices requiring sound have a DAC except a CD transport. The previous yamaha CD player ,exceptionally excellent CD player ,the previous to that a pioneer DVD player ,the 10,000 dollar amp ,previous to that was Onkyo and I can hear the difference if I have used the DACs in them .I bypass all of them and now play the CD transport through my latest upgrade ,yes I upgraded the stand alone DAC ....to my greatest of listening pleasure .From my growing listening experience I have reached a plato of sound pleasure achieved with all the components ,the last and final being the DAC. But hay ....its my experience ...enjoy yours.

Thanks for the video. It depends on what sounds good to you with your other equipment and within your budget in my experience. I auditioned 10 DACs for under $2K US. The best to my ears was the Holo Audio Cyan 2 DAC that cost about $1300. It’s a R2R design. Sounded better than DACs that cost $2K. Reinforces why I prefer separates so I can upgrade, change out components and tweak my system over time. It’s a fun part of this hobby for me. Be well and rock on.
