Most of Rare-related episodes are a reminder for Tim Stamper to dump and release KI2 for SNES.

“Somehow Bubsy has returned."

Half the reason Battletoads was popular on the NES was because of the pause music. Few of us passed the speeder bike level.

Insert joke about prank calling GameStop about battletoads here

What really hurt Battletoads 2020 was Streets of Rage 4 coming out around the same time. Both were long awaited sequels to dormant franchises, but SOR4 felt like it kept the spirit of the originals and paid tribute to them while still evolving the series. The new Battletoads by contrast just fell a little short, especially given the tone wasn't really what many fans were looking for in a new game.

Hard to believe Rare designed a game to be intentionally unforgiving… which lead to their fame.

I'd like to see a "What happened" to Cave Story. That game has been abused terribly over the years.

You know, I've always felt that the first two levels of the NES Battletoads were absolutely perfect.  If it had stayed as a 2D beat-em-up with levels that could be variants, like the pit descent and such, it would have been amazing as a kind of cartoonish Double Dragon-like.  But once it started going into all these insane and near-impossible sub-games, it just became unbearable.  The arcade Battletoads was absolutely perfect, and I wish that was what the NES was.

Hey Battletoads, at least you aren't in Street Sharks territory!

To this day, one of my dad's greatest achievements is beating the original Battletoads without even losing a single life. Obviously not first try, but...

I bet the employees at game stop will love this episode

Oh, the horrible flashbacks from the hoverbike level. Truly the test that separates the wheat from the chaff and the men from the boys.

All are damned and no salvation awaits us at the end credits.

I feel whenever you frame your reboot from "Oh we're old, time to be relevant again," You're dooming your reboot to never be relevant again.

Is this Battleto- OH SHIT IT ACTUALLY IS!

I feel really sad that Battletoads is now off the face of the Earth because I feel like a 3D Battletoads game with DMC/Platnium inspired combat (something like Battletoads Arcade but in 3D) and little hub planets you can explore to battle The Dark Queen's forces would be so cool right now. That plus a plot that feels very fun, badass, and wacky like previous entries can work. The story is gonna be a retelling of the Nintendo Power comic mixed with the 1990's cartoon as it follows three young game testers, Dave Shar, Morgan Ziegler, and George Pie as young game testers testing a video game they made when Silas Volkmore and his girlfriend trap them in the game because they want credit for making it and not them as their revealed to be the villains we face later on.

Of course, The Toads are going to work like ther ussual selves, Zits being the most balanced, Rash being the fastest, and Pimple being the strongest as you battle through hordes of baddies like General Slaughter, Big Blag, Pork Shank, and Robo Manus to finally get to The Dark Queen and Silas Volkmore as it's a boss rush before the final battle between both Silas and Queenie and it's going to test all your skills as you finally beat them and get Silas and his girlfriend arrested for attempted murder as well as stealing their ideas and you getting to venture further into the Battletoads verse.

The gameplay would work like DMC and Platinum, as in it's a brawler with many moves and such for your bad guy pounding pleasure with punches, kicks, grabs, throws, suplexes, and piledrivers to see for all who want Toad-al Mayhem for all to see. And yes there will be stuff like The Speeder Bikes but their used in a more destructive manner in stages that let you blast the hell out of enemies and kick them off their speeders ala Road Rash.

But yeah, for the most part my idea for how I'd bring the Toads back for a new generation in BATTLETOADS: Toad-al Mayhem!... But either way, video game idea aside.. Yeah I miss'em.

What happened to Rare?

Microsoft happened to Rare. 😢

I want to sincerely thank you for your videos. I recently went through the worst period of my life, with losing my car, my job, and my place to live. Now I am living with my brother and slowly trying to piece my life back together. But through all of the crippling anxiety and depression, your videos were a comfort to me. You do your research, and you keep things light. I respect that. And you seem like a genuinely good person. I have been a video game fan and researcher for my whole life, but I still learn something new with every video you post. Again, thank you, and please keep up the good work.

The 2020 game felt more like it was mocking Battletoads rather than honoring it.

Sadly Battletoads was always going to wind up relegated to the same junk drawer as all the other Ninja Turtle-adjacent properties like Biker Mice from Mars, Bucky O'Hare, Street Sharks, Street Frogs, Wild West C.O.W. Boys of Moo Mesa, S.W.A.T. Kats: The Radical Squadron, Treasure Trolls: Stone Protectors, Avenger Penguins, Road Rovers, Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys, Extreme Dinosaurs, Toxic Crusaders, The Mighty Ducks, etc (I didn't even make any of those up)
