Put a stand at the front of your property with all your free nuts and other produce you have and leave a big note in Bulgaria language offering your items for free to the community, this will keep your privacy whilst helping the locals :)

My husbands a builder and we would love doing this. When we got our house it was wrecked and we did it from the loft down, it was brilliant and hard work and mucky, and expensive but when it was done it was amazing, I think you are so lucky to be able to take that project on and brave. Its about taking you're time, theres no rush, if theres no finished rooms for a while who cares., its enjoying the experience, the odd seats, the loo with no door on, the roof with the starlight view lol. Who cares if something falls off, falls down, breaks, just build it , mend it, pick it up. Its not the cost Its all about learning to re-use the things around, its the little things like the melon and the wallnuts, but most of all enjoying yourselves and standing back and saying... we did that ❤❤

I do admire you both for taking the plunge and going for something which most wouldn't have the bottle to attempt. That barn, though, wants demolishing. As Mark said, save the timbers for use in another project, but the gable end is hanging on by a thread, the roof is gone, and it's just going to be a money pit, IMHO 🤷‍♂. I haven't heard residency visas mentioned, either. This isn't a project to be done from afar or left to builders (believe me, I know). You need to be doing absolutely everything you can yourselves, and be there 24/7. Only get builders and/or trades in when really needed. And driving a mini-digger isn't that hard; save a fortune by landscaping it yourselves. Trial and error works when it comes to things like that; within no time, you'll wonder why you were paying someone. Hope all goes well and loving watching you two. Good luck!

I'm a northern builder with experience renovating properties like this in Europe. Please be aware that your pockets need to be very deep and this project will go on for years. Limited knowledge and experience is a real handicap. Watch out for the scams. Good luck and bonne courage. 4 metric tons ?

I like that gate. Yes tart it up. You could probably put the ash on the garden.
