Persona 3 has a couple versions. Persona 3, Persona 3 FES, Persona 3 Portable (featuring a female version of the main character) and Persona 3 Reload (remake). FES is the same as Episode Aigis, in reload it’s a DLC but for FES it comes with the base game. Both are an epilogue for the story.
Persona 4 has Persona 4, Persona 4 Golden, and a remake called Persona 4 Revival coming out in 2027. For spin offs, we have Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. They’re fighting games that serve as sequel to both P3 and P4 (features characters from 3 when they’re older and more story stuff for 4)
Persona 5 has Persona 5, Persona 5 Royal, Persona 5 Strikers and Persona 5 Tactica. The last two being spin offs and Royal acting as a remaster for OG P5.
Persona Q is a spin off that features characters from P3 and P4. Q2 is the same but also features P5 characters (so 3, 4, and 5).
3, 4, and 5 all have spin off rhythm games. Dancing All Night, Dancing in Moonlight, and Dancing in Starlight.
Persona 5 The Phantom X is a spin off mobile gacha game from Persona 5. It features a brand new cast but you do get collabs with other Persona games (such as 5 and 3, so far)
The original Persona (Revelations: Persona) has a PSP port that came out in 2009.
Persona 2 Innocent Sin and Persona 2 Eternal Punishment are a duology. Both also got PSP ports.
Persona 6 has been announced officially but we’ve only gotten a short teaser for it. More news soon.
The games started as a subseries/spin off to the Shin Megami Tensei series but grew out to become more popular, funnily enough. The SMT name got dropped out of the naming after og P4, but it was used before, like Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3.
I've watched a ton of people blind reactions to the Persona openings (the algorithm keeps shoving them in my face) and I love it. It's pretty cool how we pay for a soundtrack and get a free game with it :P
One of the songs you said "I love the beginning of that" that beginning part actually has a full song that it's just like that part and it's called "Kimi no Kioku" or "Memories of you"
1:30 I thought it was a translation thing too but I realized it was saying: "When I woke, I was I; and not a butterfly." As in "I woke up and I was me"
The start of the P3 FES song which you liked is named "Memories of You" if you want a full version. It's the ending song of Persona 3 and a very emotional one
Fun Fact: Of all the visuals and dialogue in the opening for Persona 3 Portable, approximately 50% of them are upside down. This is relevant because it was one of the few times the series has ever really let players select their main characters gender, and so you could essentially watch the opening from the "perspective" of whichever MC you wanted, normal for Male MC (the default MC from original persona 3) or flip your PSP upside down to watch it from the perspective of the Female MC (new, and exclusive to the PSP version of persona 3). This is also why each half has slight differences (IE: the escalator shot at 19:30 in the "normal" frame the character moves the "gun", but in the upper frame of that same shot he does not even have the "gun", and the shot right after the Male MC reacts to seeing the Female MC, but she does not react to him).
All the subtle differences in the opening make it feel way more detailed than you'd expect and I can't help but appreciate the level of detail that clearly went into it.
I don't know why I haven't seen anyone explain this, but Q and Q2 are spinoffs that involve all of the groups from 3-5. Persona Q came out before 5 so it only has P3 and P4s teams, but they team up. So the guy who "has Joker's mask" in the Q2 opening was just Joker
Ok, so I saw your confusion. The Persona Q is a series of spin-off games that are a crossover. Q being a crossover between P3 and P4, while Q2 also including P5 with P3 and P4. Hope this helps.
Persona is actually the spin off of the much older Shin Megami Tensei series, which it self is like a sequel series to Megami Tensei which is based on the Digital Devil Story novels that came out in the mid 80's
49:08 yes, it makes sense. The main theme in P3 is life and death, and death iconography is all over the place. The main characters use fake guns called "evokers", to summon their personas Persona: the "real inner you" that in the game manifest as a physical invocation that fights along you In P3, the standard way to be able to manifest your Persona is feeling you are facing death and you are willing to fight despite it. That's why those trinkets are gun-shaped, so you can be in "the right headspace"= feel you are facing death.
14:34 I believe persona 1 & 2 are connected directly other than that P3, P4, and P5 are their own stories but they are canonically connected within the same universe and mainly the only reoccurring character throughout the games is the long nose guy(Igor) and he is mainly like a guide you usually meet at the start/exposition of the games
To answer you question, Every game is its own story except for Persona 2 which is a duology
