I Entered an Abandoned Artist's Home... Then I Found a Skull

Deep in the woods of Southern Louisiana, I found the abandoned house of an artist named Percy Cutrer. 50 years of his life was still inside… paintings, books, photographs. All of slowly being taken by the heat, the rain, and time.

But then I saw it- a human skull just sitting there in plain sight. No telling how long these remains have been in this house.

I came here looking for the story of the man who lived here but now there was another person in that story… I don’t even know their name.

He passed away in 2013 and his only living relative was his youngest brother, who buried him. The brother passed away in 2019, he was quite elderly as well so he likely didn't have the means to clean out his siblings house or do anything with it. The Cutrer family had deep roots in that town, they had a flooring company and slaughterhouse. Now they're all gone.

20:45 pretty sure most of his abstract and geometric works depict freeing of the spirit. That was a dude who knew death isn't the end, merely transition.

Percy would have been a little boy during the great depression. About 4 when it started, and it lasted 10 years, so he was old enough to remember it. That might explain the abundance of food he kept.
The skull certainly was a cliff hanger

3:38 His mother's name was Ruth Pearl Cutrer (McGregor) so whom ever the diploma belong to was related to his mother. I found an obituary online that says John was her brother born 1893 died 1964.

Maybe a Restorer in that town could salvage his art and have a show of his life that would be awesome. 🎨I would think he deserved it

Very interesting. Makes one think about how we collect so much stuff and then, poof, we're gone and the stuff is still there. I wish people wouldn't trash abandoned properties like that.

@20:03 when u said, "spiritual books," I glanced up and caught just a glimpse of what I knew had to be several of Carlos Castaneda's works. So sure that i had to grab the remote and walk up to the tv so i could skip it back and see if I was right.

That series of books on the ancient apprentiship he undertook changed my life forever!

Jeremy, I am so glad to see you back and exploring! You have been missed. I have missed your voice and your storytelling. I feel like I got to know Percy a little bit and he was a very interesting man. It’s such a shame that a lot of his possessions are still left in his home just rotting away. Keep healing and I look forward to another posting from you!
