I think this is only the correct interpretation for the show. Basically the makers read it (or maybe not, I don't know) and interpreted it that way. In the books I believe it's quite clear that Danny is wrong about accusing Mirri of doing it. Mirri always does what Danny tells her to and always answers all of the questions, there is no manipulation (in the book). The conversations goes like this: "only death will pay for life" - "my death" - "no, not your death" - "do it!" => Danny does not ask, because she does not want to know. Mirri executes what Danny tells her to do. It fails because Jora enters the tent. There are many theories what the price was. I could imagine that the baby was the price but it died since Danny entered the tent and therefore the ritual failed and Drogo became this puppet.
The problem with Mirri intending all of this is that... the plan is stupid, it's really dumb and I don't think that Mirri is dumb. So let's assume she actually poisoned Drogo. Even then it was not enough that he changed the bandage, he still made sure to ignore the pain and hide it behind drinking and some oder bandaid so he did not feel his wound rot. But let's say it was her. Then he's near to the death and then she does all of this manipulation to let Danny perform this ritual that will very likely mean that Danny would know that it was her. But this ritual does not achieve anything for Mirri. Drogo dies without it anyways and Rhaego is basically dead as well because the new Khals will kill him, it's stated explicitely in the same chapter. So she could just stand next to Danny and then say "sorry, I can't do anything" and achieves the same outcome but without getting into trouble and you know... being executed. That's also the reason why Mirri does not leave with the other Khals to save her life. Instead she stays there and takes care of Danny, she could have let her die (or kill her) as well, but she doesn't. You really wanna tell me that Mirri stayed there and sacrifice her life to stand over Danny and tell her with a few sentences with a wicked smile?
In the books Mirri never admits that it was her goal. She just simply does what she's told and gets blamed for Danny's mistakes. She did not intend to have this outcome. Mirri is just a slave who literally was slaving around for the whole book 1, did everything that she was told and whom Danny wrongly executed in order to get her dragons, that is the sad truth for the books.

Everyone who blames Daenerys forget that she was just 14yo child who was brainwashed by her brother about that throne and crown thing. You think she knew what war is and how it is fought? She only heard - the throne was taken from us, we must take it back. You don't have critical thinking at 14

Miri was into blood magic herself so it's possible that she created mother of dragons deliberately, all these blood rituals are ancient Valyria and Valyria is dragon country so maybe what happened was planned

I've never read anything as deeply satisfying as Daenerys's arc in Book 1. The sheer rush, the pure thrill, and the dark vindication of her scenes completely overshadowed the rest of the novel for me. Words literally can't describe how it made me feel; I looked forward to her chapters so much that I ended up rereading some of them five or six times. And when it came to dealing with the witch... the series was good, but the book was AMAZING!!!!!

The witch is literally a saint who tried to save the world, one of my favorite characters😊

Except it backfired, because her life was used to bring life to Daenerys's dragons.
