When I started this episode I did not expect this to be the story of the Florida bath salt guy and the entire story at that because I think most people across the US assumed it was some geeked-out tweaker on bath salts probably like some crazy homeless person or something, for those of us who didn't follow the story avidly
This is how heartbreaking story for everyone involved
"KILL.ME, IM EATING HUMANS KILL ME!". Sounds straight out of the most terrifying movie, but even more so because it was real life it absolutely breaks the heart to think of somebody who was just well-adjusted the year before, haven't changed so much because nobody understands the dangers of drug psychosis
Even if you understand the dangers of addiction and drugs you cannot ever predict something like this happening
I had a boyfriend, not for very long but he was an alcoholic schizophrenic and he drank to silence the voices in his head
Did not do m3th or anything like that.. but before the voices in his head started before the schizophrenia
He did it one time and he was never okay again and that's what brought the schizophrenia on
I think everybody in school and I'm talking junior high and up, should have to have a full course on this, so that they can know the dangers and even if they dismiss them like we all did when we were kids and we all drank or smoked pot and corn fields (I grew up in the 80s and 90s) people need to recognize the dangers in other people as well so that they can step in because this family was totally clueless for so long
Even though I'm aware he was not in acute drug psychosis because he was not on anything but THC at this point I'm talking about drug psychosis that can happen months even years after its initial induction
I was Crane Flat Yosemite based Helicopter Rapeller Fire and Rescue in 1995 and could not find that woman for the life of us. We flew 1 hr at a time and swapped spotter crews then rotated onto the second helicopter for an hr of flight spotting .. thats hanging out an open door at elevation sequred by a gunners strap expised to wind and cold. Tbs we had REALLY HIGH WATER that year and my first search corps was located 2 months later underwater still. Several bodies in water that year. The debris pile she was found in ...not on... more like she was crossing a log jam and it hroke loose carying her and that debris flow
If you’re hiking and there’s only two of you and you separate you’re asking for trouble you don’t know who’s been watching you and it’s just insane not to be carrying something to defend yourself. Just don’t separate is my take on this.
So now I'm recognizing this as the Florida bath salts case and it's nothing what I expected because I didn't follow the story
The sheer drug-induced psychosis which is what started Austin's mental illness, it's heartbreaking for everybody involved. But especially astonishing was that even though I never expected the taser to work because it doesn't work on people on PCP either, I can't believe he was able to rip his arm away out of that canines teeth the first time.. and I let off there and I'm going to finish now so I don't know how the story wraps up yet
Thank you for sharing this one Mr Ballen .. truly fascinating to finally years later have the whole story because I had forgotten all about it until I recognized it when you said he was eating the guy's face in conjunction with Florida
7 :53 Abduction, rape and murder are still a major possibility in this case. Two men can toss a lightweight woman the distance required to clear the cliff face. Psycopaths routinely visit National Parks. You might as well go in armed enough to defend yourself. Certainly a canister of CR gas, spray to deter and incapacitate them before they get you, and NEVER NEVER TRAVEL or WALK ALONE!!!
