When I was in Australia visiting my brother and sister-in-law, we took a road trip. Along the highway there were signs reminding drivers to stop for a break. At the next rest stop, there was a kiosk managed by two or three ladies who had a kind, cheerful word for us, a free cup of tea, and a little package of biscuits. It was a memorable - and refreshing - experience.
American here. My daughter and I have worked in fast food. We've just agreed that "the cleaning of taps being neglected" hasn't changed in roughly 85 years... ❤
Western Canadian here. Garron I had an Irish Nan and she used to have tea school to teach the young how to make tea "Right and good and no arguments!!" Tea can cure almost any ill in your world!
Garron my mother always put her milk in before the hot tea and the reason behind this is 9 times out of ten it was fine bone china and you could permanently stain the the FBC cup or even worse the hot tea would shatter the FBC cup and that was your whole, very expensive tea set ruined as it was now incomplete. FBC tea sets were a once in a life time purchase for normal everyday folks and was more likely a wedding gift from a close relative so also had sentimental value attached to it. I'm following you because you truly are delicious ❤❤❤😂😂😂❤❤❤
Milk first is correct if the tea is being brewed in a separate pot and not in the cup. Milk second if you're brewing with a teabag in a cup, since tea needs to be brewed at boiling. Simple rules.
My grandfather always used to brew a pot of tea and put milk in the cups first, it was like having a luxurious tea experience every time I visited. Teabag + milk second didn't even come close.
I grew up with tea, it could fix any problem. My mom would rattle a spoon in a cup and we'd come running. When I started working in Manhattan, I would order a tea to go, from the deli, they would put the milk in first, then the tea bag and then the warm water, it was horrible and it was impossible to teach them the right way. I had to switch to coffee. Love the video and still prefer a cuppa when its made right
The "ordinary people" all sound like the queen. 😂 The first time I went to make a pot of tea in Ireland the whole room jumped up and erupted in a horrified "NO" when I neglected to warm the pot first 😂
My mom spent the 1940's and 1950's living in Ireland. She had no clue tea bags existed. When she came to New York City, married to my father, she went to a restaurant and ordered a cup of tea. They gave her a hot pot of water and a tea bag. She was clueless. They used to take crates of tea leaves and break them into bags of tea to sell to people at a shop she worked in as a teenager in Ireland.
I laughed so hard . Even though I know most of the rules this was still great fun and your commentary was delightful. I used to visit a friend from Donegal and she would put the tea and the fresh water in the kettle and boil them together! Just before the boiling happened she rinsed the cups with hot water . At boiling point she turned the heat off and as soon as the tea was still she put it into the cups and added warm milk as requested. It was amazing tea. It was certainly never insipid!
