"Sometimes, we fall in love with the idea of someone, not the reality. Healing starts when we realize our worth isn't tied to someone who can't see it."
The worst part of limerence is when you get out of it and look back at all the damage it has done to your mental health, the fun times it has ruined for you, and the time wasted doubting yourself and feeling really conscious about yourself…
I found in my personal experience that limerance tends to crop up when you’re in an unsatisfying stage in your life. Likely you’re lonely, never had a stable relationship, or you were only loved in childhood based on a set of conditions. You see that person as a ticket to a better life, not as a person that can add to your life. Truth is you have to love the life you already have before you can invite someone in to share it with. People are companions, not a resource.
Everyone who suffers from limerence is gonna eventually have that one experience where they develop limerence for someone they truly respect and care about and end up really bothering them and creeping them out and it'll make you swear to yourself "I'm NEVER doing this again"
Once you fully accept the feelings you have for someone are limerence, the way you see the entire world can transform because you've probably been feeling limerence for dozens and dozens of people as an endless cycle for years...but the awareness means the cycle can finally end.
grieving is sooooo true. a grief that no one knows, no one can understand because its a loss that is never there in the first place. im glad im in this grieving process already.. been hitting the gym, taking morning runs.. cleaning my space.. and vow to love myself first..
The worst part is that he created hope when there was truly none. I think if he was honest and said we can never be a thing i wouldn't be in this spiral. But he didn't which is very abusive in itself.
Fell in love with an idea of a girl who actually let me put my walls down--who allowed my vulnerability when no one else would give me that space. Turns out that was just her being her. Whatever she gave was not special treatment, just the same politeness and kindness she'd nicely hand out to everyone. She was the only one who treated me that way, but I was just one of the many she treated as such. Nothing special. Just my delusion painting a portrait of what could've been.
When you're surrounded by darkness, any kind of light is attractive enough to seek out. But then it's too late to realize that light might actually be the fire that burns you through and through.
Limerence, if unchecked, can lead to a dangerous obsession. Never beg or chase. If they are not into you, just move on. Love is a verb and it requires action from both parties. As for filling the void, I use whiskey at times. Most people like me, women like talking with me but no one ever stays. I can relate to the childhood references about earning love but I’ve moved past that. As I said never beg. However, I can’t ignore the pattern of being invisible to the women I’m interested in. I recommend getting a hobby, have a drink and saddle up for a long ride alone in a world that doesn’t actually care.
7:41"It's not that you're actually in love with them. You're in love with the idea that someone could love you so hard that maybe you could love yourself" That was sooo brutal! 🥺 But so needed :thanksdoc:
