You have taken a 'good' gun and made a great gun! I am a fan of 'plain' guns particularly the Tennessee and Western North Carolina mountain rifles or 'hog' guns. Now, I like look at a well carved and decorated rifle but at the end of the day, it don't shoot no straighter. There is something inherently beautiful to me about a well finished plain Jane gun like the one you show in this video. I own two of your kits (SMR and Colonial) and if'n I can wrangle up enough beaver plews, I will probably be purchasing one of these J.K. Hawken when you get production going well and your process refined. Thanks for all you do!
THANK you! for bring out a kit of a Hawken gun that IS a Hawken gun and not some brass and patch-box festooned plains rifle. It may not be an exACT copy but it would be dang near close enough for those that appreciate the difference. I believe Hawken's ghost would forgive you your few dalliances from the original.😃
I was saving up for a Pedersoli Rocky Mountain until I got an email last week that you were taking deposits for this kit. I saw you finished example and didn’t hesitate to to put my deposit down! A superb example and can’t wait for my kit! My winter project!
My dad was way into muzzleloading in the 70’s. He had a T/C hawken which was his favorite, he shot the crap out of it, and eventually wore the barrel out(which he replaced). That rifle is one of my most prominent early memories. My brother has it now, and still shoots it. To me, its just what a muzzleloader should look like. Jim’s kit is amazing, and the example he’s showing here is drop dead gorgeous. We’ll be ordering two of these kits. Keep doing what you’re doing, Jim! Cant wait to show the completed rifles to Pops, he’s gonna be floored.
Jim I have never been a fan of half stock guns, but you and your team really did knock this out of the park. Many thanks and all the respect you deserve. I still get your kits from time to time for myself, they are a real pleasure to build and shoot. Louie Parker’s work was truly inspiring for beyond words. His works of art were a large motivator for me to take the leap from kit guns to scratch builds. Not related to Hawkens but southern iron mounted rifle he copied by the “unknown” builder with a hinge trigger guard was amazing. A bit confusing and chaotic 😂 but beautiful.
Nice, I’ve been waiting years for this. And wouldn’t you know it, age has surpassed me, when it finally becomes reality. Congrats and I am sure it will be a huge success for you.
Beautiful work Jim!! I just got my flintlock yesterday evening. I’m loving it. I have been working on guns since 1977, and never had a muzzle loader, worked on one much less shot one. I’ve been studying them for the last 8 months and you Sir are an expert on the subject. I do want a woods runner and now a Hawken. You are manufacturing some nice guns. Keep up the fantastic work.
I bought one of these up at track of the wolf in elk River about 15 years ago. It’s one of the most beautiful guns I own and one of the most capable also. Thank you for coming up a kit now it’s up to the buyer to make it beautiful.
Absolutely beautiful rifle! I hunted with a Hawken for years but eventually sold it to buy an inline. Wish I could get a do-over for that one. I was young and dumb! She was the best black powder rifle I ever owned. Your kits are very nice but a little too pricey for me. Not that they are over priced, I just can’t afford one. Divorced and a few health issues, that sad old song. Keep up the good work, I may be able to snag a kit at some point. Beautiful rifles my friend! Absolutely!
