Putting the SmallRig Carbon Fiber Video Monopod 5565 to Work (On Location)

Nicole Bedard Photo + Video

People kept asking to see the SmallRig Carbon Fiber Video Monopod 5565 actually in use, so I took it on location and filmed this real-world walkthrough.

In this video, I’m showing how I use the SmallRig Carbon Fiber Video Monopod 5565 during an on-location shoot, how it handles movement, stability, and speed, and why it’s become a go-to piece in my video setup.

Since I work with creative business owners I need to get into position quickly while they are in their creative flow.

This video was so GOOD!!!!! lol dangit, I wanted the cheaper one, but the robustness of this one you totally sold me. GREAT JOB! love the many shots of you using it in the moment and the tons of variability you captured. Literally how I shoot so I felt like you were speaking directly to me.

What is the model of the Right Stuff ball head? Also, besides B&H, K&G, and Adorama, where have you found your best pricing on your equipment and accessories?
Thank you!

Awesome info! When you were shooting in a vertical position. I noticed your hand always under the camera.
Does the monopod have a tendency to lean when the camera is in that position?
I want one to be able to film better but I wouldn’t be able to be behind the camera when filming for socials

So this or the COMAN M1PRO V5?

Looks really great. I see you can add different heads with the extra plate they provide, but can you do the inverse and mount the supplied fluid head to a different setup, say a tripod? Or Does it only work with that quick release setup?

Fantastic review, I really am considering getting this one. Do you find it heavy during your sessions? Any short comings after using it for a while now?

What’s the link for the head ball ? I bought the standard one for $159 on Amazon

I've only used a tripod but more recently have been looking into getting a monopod for space reasons. This looks like the one to get, the other being the Coman M1ProV5 which is eerily similar. My only question is were you comfortable with how stable it is to work with? I've read a couple of comments elsewhere about not trusting that aspect.

Great video! I'm curious, I saw that you were using your foot to hold the monopod feet down as you adjusted the height of the monopod, is this because if you did not hold it down with your foot and you tried to adjust the height, the feet would lift up in the air? If you are not using the monopod feet, and just using it as a monopod, does the height still adjust smoothly when you push the button with one hand? Thanks!

how is the monopod working out after a month of use? I'm thinking about getting the cheaper one with the knob instead of the pedal. I just can't afford $300 for a monopod.
