I was supposed to be at the Singapore F1 Grand Prix tonight. I tried everything to make it happen, but it just didn’t work out, and honestly, I was frustrated. So instead of letting the night go to waste, I hopped on a random bus and headed out to Hougang—the largest HDB public housing estate in Singapore by land area.
What started out as a backup plan turned into one of the most authentic late-night walks I’ve had in the country. I wanted to see what life actually looks like away from the race track and the downtown lights.
From 24-hour coffeeshops and outdoor hawker centers to massive HDB housing blocks, the neighborhood was full of life. Singapore has so much to offer past the tourist traps. I walked through the residential streets, talked about the tropical heat, checked out the local food, and shared the real story of why I missed the Grand Prix—all while soaking in the late-night heartland vibes.

You may wish to consider visiting Little India for their night bazaar in the evening for street food ( but will be more expensive than hawker centre ) and soak in the Deepavali street light up from 7pm onwards which started 3 days ago. You can take MRT to Little India MRT Station (using either NE Purple Line or DownTown Blue line).
