With the aim of helping beginners, and as a praise for Gwen and Damo's hard work, in this video I analyse and synthesise the perfect pump foiling technique that pros are using to pump longer and further with ease.

In this series, I’m documenting my journey into pump foiling with the goal of helping beginners like me return to the dock, pump longer and further in any condition, and start from anywhere, so that in a near future we’ll unlock together the full potential of this discipline and explore the beauty of the world on our tiny body-powered boards.

Dude, I am loving your deep dive into pumping! It's just exactly what I need right now. I am just out of the water after trying to "half squat" up and over the hump after your last video. It made a big difference, I definitely improved thanks to your break down. Can't wait for my next session now, I will for sure be focusing on "reaching the branch" and driving forward. hi! i want to learn to pump and i have been looking at scientific papers regarding your point being high on the mast. I kind of understand that being high on the mast gives you more time if you want to rest between pumps, but from what i found published, you need to have your foil submerged at least two times your chord length (for the axis 1310 for example that would be 37cm) otherwise the performance of your foil decreases rapidly (you need higher Angle of attack for the same lift and you have much more drag). if you are interested in this topic you can look this paper "Performance of a hydrofoil operating close to a free surface over a range of angles of attack". I also checked the record video of Indiana foils an he does not ride high on the mast. why do you thing riding high leads to higher performance?

Thanks a lot for that video. It helped me a lot to understand "the jump" and extending. There is another video out there from ludovic freefoiler https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bQSq7YO4NM that helped me a lot with improving the pitch down phase. Watching both videos over and over, I had the feeling that ludovic's technique is quite different from the one of Gwen as well as Yvonne. So for me it would be very interesting to analyze more closely the different techniques and compare them. Sadly I don't have the skills to do that ;-). So maybe that is an interesting topic for you? E.g. Ludovic points the back foot to the back and it appears to me that this helps with shifting the weight to the front and obviously doing 17km on a Sirus he is pretty efficient.
