Grant is an absolute Unit leading from the front on a busted ankle. Thumbs up to y'all. I never knew that :)

Very well done!  Kudos to the American Battlfield Trust.  Only the repeat of Antietem and Vicsburg detracted, but you all did a wondeful job.  Congrats!

Funny story... when i was in 2nd grade (1984), family went to Shiloh for the day. Walking around my cousin was swinging a stick at a low hanging limb as I walked up....hit me square in the face. At that point I was the last injury at Shiloh...cant remember exact words Park Ranger used but something along that :)......93 stitches and a cracked eye socket.  It was a low road in view of the river near the entrance. All I remember and never have been back

A great Documentary on this topic l’am I enjoyed this episode very well thank you for sharing this story 👏👍

This is useless.. Not only are there ads, but full programs dropped into the episode. It breaks up the continuity of the presentation. If I thought that You Tube would listen I would say something .

Damn YouTube, with all these ad breaks it's gonna to take me another 250 years to watch this thing, jeez!

1 Northern Nation

I'm well aware that I have few people who agree with me out there, but the greatest calamity that befell the Confederacy ... thank goodness for the cause of decency and humanity ... was that Johnston got wounded and Lee took over.

Johnston, like Longstreet, was a man KEENLY aware of the horrendous logistics and the limitations of replenishment that the Confederacy faced. He actually understood that you cannot enter a battle with the Union, kill 10.000 Union troops while you lose almost 10.000 of your own and win in the long run because there are three times more people in the Union, AND they don't have to keep soldiers back home to guard the third of their population that is enslaved. As someone once put it: the Union fought the entire war with one arm tied behind the back, and one cannot help but get a feeling that if things had gotten REALLY ugly, they could've untied that  unused arm and brought it out to fight back.

Lee had no such understanding whatsoever. He was utterly profligate with the lives of his soldiers. His victories may have looked glorious but were the true definition of "pyrrhic" victories, since he simply could not sustain that loss-rate in the long run. They beat the Union back time and again under McClellan, inflicting horrible losses. Then under Pope, Burnside and Hooker respectively (although Hooker probably lost mostly due to a severe concussion from a near-miss from a cannon-ball). And every single time, they thought "SURELY now the Yankees must surrender and sue for peace". And every time the yankees marched back north, brought in new reinforcements, trained them and came back to try again.

All the while those yankees kept beating the Confederacy to a bloody pulp out west, where frankly, the hapless Braxton Bragg, the most useless army commander in the history of North American warfare up until WWII (and possibly even after that), costing even MORE confederate lives that couldn't be replaced.

The ONLY two men in the Confederate high command structure who understood that the way to win was through MASSIVE defenses and inflicting the most crippling losses on the Union that way, while keeping one's own losses as small as possible, were Johnston and Longstreet, and they were reviled for it because "it didn't fit the Southern way of thinking". Maybe not, but they were indisputably right. When you are outnumbered and forced to keep a numerically AND technologically superior foe with a huge advantage in production and logistics out of your lands, the way to do so by ANY military logic and reasoning, is to make him break against your defenses and then move out to mop up the remnants when he shatters and gives up and runs.

Thank goodness they never really figured that out. A world in which the Confederacy won isn't worth contemplating.

To avoid war the CSA advised Beauguard to fire on fort Sumptner to start a war. Wat lol?

No sin goes unpunished...thrown into ravines unceremoniously represents the contempt even the earth has for those who disregard the lives of others. No one should've been enslaved, no indigenous person abused...America has yet to reconcile with that Truth! You reap what you sow!

Could "paroled" prisoners in the Civil War re-enter the fighting ranks of their army later on ?

It’s my understanding that the North wanted control of the cotton industry so the war started, slavery was another black flag

50:43 in this video. Instead of the idiotic "Juneteenth" which we are forced to accept, the date should have been for the "Emancipation Proclamation". The battle of Antietam, gave Lincoln the leverage to announce it and firmly tie the civil war to the ending of slavery. Finally stopping any talk of the United Kingdom from recognizing the confederacy (which they were about to do). The beginning of the end to all slavery in the USA, and paid for by thousands of soldiers on that battlefield.

I know that people like to spit on the south! And claimed that it was better off that it was  destroyed for decency and humanity, democracy. But look at the garbage you ended up with! I truly believe there has never been nothing more honest and more decent then the Confederate people that died for their Libertys and their freedom. Slavery was never the issue it was then and now only about controling our lives.
Yours truly JD.

Dreadful rubbish, overt propaganda, too simplified , guess it's for uneducated people with no nuance or understanding, watch Ken Burns Civil War instead, far more honest and detailed.  2/10

Slavery Was Not at the forefront of this war. Less than 2% of southerners owned slaves. Listening to the first minute of this video made me turn it off.

yanks killing there same septic tanks, locking up there captured prisoners in under inhumane camps to each other is a better subject for your full of adds (he just came in time), b s false patrial made up Hollywood facts as per usual,
