I also just love how folks like Tess Holliday use the terms "curvy" or "plus size" to describe themselves when they're actually morbidly obese.

I don’t know anyone who identifies as their clothing size. I think those that do, especially in real life, probably need some therapy to unpack why they are focusing on that.

To me midsize has always been a descriptor for the average person who isn't represented on screen or in fashion: not a size 0 / runway model, but also not plus-size. Basically the group that, despite being the majority, is never ever glamourised or pushed as a beauty ideal, as opposed to the two ends of the spectrum.

“I don’t resonate with a size 6” such a crazy ass thing to say you don’t “resonate” with sizes. They’re just clothes and you wear them. You don’t have to vibe with the clothing tags. So stupid.
You lose and gain weight over your life for tons of reasons. It’s funny that these people will say society cares too much about weight while forming their identity around being fat.
I gained a lot from anti depressants over the last two years I don’t now identify as a “plus sized” person. I just lose weight and if I stayed fat I would still be me and not “midsized” I’m myself +60 pounds

Not a coincidence that the clothing size that’s “mid size” increases with the size of the person defining it.

“Midsized” is a new thing. In the “old days,” when I grew up, most women’s clothing sizes went up to a size 12. Plus sizes were size 14-24 usually.

As Americans got fatter, many brands began extending their sizes to a 14 or even 16 to keep/expand their business. Plus sizes also extended their size range to a 10W (which is like a normal size 12) up to a 26W - or larger.

Women sized 12 - 16 can now shop in both “regular” and plus sizes, so I guess that’s what “midsize” is.

Your identity should not be wrapped up in your size, whether you’re overweight or not.

I just watched a documentary on Auschwitz. These people using the word "opression" to describe the consequences of their own gluttony is wildly offensive.

Also, I've had two different pairs of jeans both say waste size 30 and actually be different sizes. Absolutely wild.

As Americans get larger, our sizes are expanding.  20 years ago I was one of the biggest girls in HS, at 5'4 180lbs and definitely plus size. We had juniors, misses, and womens, and I wore the latter because the other sizes only went up to 13,14 (modern size 9,10). Idc for the term midsize, I'm obese, just because people are larger than me doesn't mean I'm thin. I'll say midsized because I can't fit standard not vanity sized brands.

So .. I never see men talking so much about this. Or at all. That says how much society has damaged women's self esteem 😢 edit: and the inconsistent sizing you mentioned is a good example of that

I'm a size 4-6 in clothing. If someone called me straight sized in real life. I'd just roll my eyes at them. My doctors put me on a kidney diet and a low potassium diet for my kidney health. Fried foods make me throw up. I loved french fries. They were my favorite. I can't eat them no more. Eventually you stop craving stuff you use to eat when you could eat whatever you wanted. A healthy diet keeps you at stable healthy weight. These people need pulls their fingers from their ears. Listen to their doctors if they don't want future medical issues that come with obesity.

There are way more important and interesting things in life than finding out what category you fit in.

And people think skinny people are obsessed with the numbers? Holy god if I thought as much about my body type as these women do I’d go absolutely insane. I kind of feel bad for them- it’s like a broken record.

Mid-size doesn’t exist. It's all straight sizing until plus sizing. Some stores just have smaller size ranges. Size 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 are typically found in the "misses" section and 20+ are in the plus size section. "Mid size" clothes are cut the same way as straight size... because they are straight size.

I consider myself to be midsized because I'm a size medium in that type of sizing, and dress size US 6-8. I was genuinely surprised to find out that midsized DIDNT mean average/medium lol

When midsize first came about I was under the impression that it was like the 8-12 range of sizes, so like idk 28”-32” waist, & initially it just seemed like a good way for me, an 8/10 person to find people with a similar body shape to mine & find reviews on the way clothes fit etc, like if I can find someone who also is a pear shaped size 8 who wears a small on top & an 8/10 on bottom I may be able to find brands/jeans that I like better or whatever. But then there was this huge argument about what midsize is, escalating to the point where there were people saying “there’s a fatness spectrum you’re just a small fat” & zero self awareness that if I, a size 8, called myself fat at ALL I would be ripped to shreds and I just abandoned that content lol. I just wanted to find people that could give me style ideas that looked nice on my body type I wasn’t looking for an identity or political movement.

Midsize is in my Country (Europe), when you wear Size M and not XL or XXL.  Not very thin and not overweight. Just between.
