I go to conservators for their rusty old tacks. I restore antiquarian books sometimes. I have to wet-stretch velum or parchment. What I found with new nails is they are too clean and don't bond with the skin, instead of stretching it tears but some crusty, rusty tacks keep that from happening. The flat head of the rusty tack bonds with the skin over a wider area than just the shaft, and it keeps the wet velum or parchment taught until it's completely dry.
So if you have a jar full of rusty, crusty tacks somewhere and you don't mind sending it to the Netherlands for a good cause (I do books for folks who can't afford the costs of a restoration for free)

Imagine someone just discovering this channel and having to pause and ask "did he just say he's not gonna use his laser today?"

For sure this restoration is TLC
Who else has been waiting for Baumgartner upload

You can't turn back time, but a table that uses 0.605 gigawatts does get you halfway there 🤣

Thankfully your viewers mention you in the comments from stolen content. Now I get to watch your video from you!

I'm a widower. A single father of 6 kids since. Life is loud and full of strife.

Days and days and months and months pass, almost without realizing it.

Getting to enjoy a Baumgartner restoration, and hear your voice, Julian, is a small comfort in that.

I'm thankful for it, every single time.

Her husband Lucien Stanley Hanks was a banker, 1838-1926 and she was Sybil Agnes 1842-1918. .  1880 shows children Lucien, Stanley and Marshall.

Even on furniture patina isn't always desirable or valuable. I remember a small coffee table that a friend asked me to restore (I do this from time to time as a hobby), it was a very simple design and looked almost black, but it turned out to be just heavily stained and covered in many layers of dark varnish, what actually made it unique (and absolutely stunning when cleaned and properly varnished) was the wood itself, which was walnut root bulb with gorgeous naturally contrasting swirl patterns.

Julian: "We can't turn back time."
Your entire raison d'etre and business is the reversal of time! 😉😂

"Don't go stapling canvas on,
Please stick to the stretcher and the tacks that you're used to."

definitely not the intention of the old conservator, but the varnish they used hides the fact that she is a redhead! justice for this diva!!

"A little TLC" made an enormous difference in her delicate face and the lace at her neck. More life in her eyes, and more depth between the background and subject. I really enjoyed watching.

She was an attractive girl for her age and time. You did her justice.

The canvas patches on the back appear to be made from tailor's hair canvas rather than artist's canvas. Hair canvas is very stable with no stretch, and is used in men's suit jackets to give a smooth crisp appearance in the chest and shoulders.

Wear a mask while brushing dust, radon and decay elements  are no joke. You do this fulltime and damage is cumulative.

After all these years of watching you, I am still amazed at how much of a difference such small (relatively) changes make.

3:50 DNA can be extracted from even very old dust as long as it hasn't been exposed to sunlight or heat - I would think these old paintings would be interesting to do a DNA scan upon.

4:05 as a framer, I know this all too well 😩 sometimes I'll be disassembling some old work and wonder if I'm going to catch a brand-new previously undiscovered disease from all the dirt, mold, mud, crumbling adesive etc etc in it

Your scripts for these videos are always amazing.

24:37 Don't we all need it?
