"As soon as our eyes met I wished the world were a not one black empty ruin of ashes and death. I wished it were fresh and beautiful and that we were both living and had love to give each other."
My favorite sad part is when Claudia realizes she will never grow beyond a child's face. She wants to be a woman so much, she wants to age & have relationships but can't. It's so sad but such a good part of this story. Thank you for sharing this.
Im from Serbia, and my ancestors completely believed in vampires. 😄 There's many recorded case's of people being dug from graves, their heads being cut and put between their legs, stake put through their hearts...whole package haha. This was very, very real for people in the past. Also, it's hilarious how Anne describes us in eastern europe as mindless savages, even our vampires are like zombies.
I was in high school when this first book came out. Have read them all. Am now 60+ and love listening to the book and looking forward to the rest. Ann's description of New Orleans , the smells and the sounds are beautiful.
The part that baffles me the most in this entire novel is right after Claudia attempts to kill Lasat. They dump his corpse in a body of water... Like, why? 😂 neither of them thought they should take advantage of his weakened state by placing his somewhere in the house and just leave him there till dawn so that way they’d know for sure he was dead. Like, the sun is the ONE thing that they know for certain and without a doubt would utterly destroy him for GOOD but nah. The plot demands that they forget about the very thing that is a 100% guaranteed kill, all so that Part One could have a suspense filled action scene lmao
I always wondered why Louis didn’t go after bad people if he had so much of a conscience? He’d never run out of murderers, rapists, child traffickers, armed robbers, poisoners, etc. to stalk and hunt in this world.
