Long time feller in the marine business here. Get 2 new Sherwood 10615K sea water pump impellers and install them ASAP. If you lose one, immediate overheating. Change the belts while you are in there. The J tubes should really be on the new carbs for safety reasons. Take that old Kohler out of there if its dead. Less weight and more space in the bilge. I have every Crusader 270 parts and service manual you could ever want. I will email them to you. If you need parts locally, White House TN, Marine Parts Source. Great spot with tons of Crusader parts and general boat systems parts. Be careful and have fun. We have to see this old Gibson running on the lake again, please!

The positives: it’s got 2 small block chevys and no brakes to fix! You’ve got this Derek, good luck!

Please continue this series! Can't wait to see where you take this! :)

Please do a Short of that lower bilge being pumped down so we can all sleep at night! 😆 That thing was almost up to the floor!

Vice Grip Marina?

I genuinely found this to be one of the most captivating videos you've ever done. Opening the port in the floor to discover that the bilge was full nearly up to the floor had me on the edge of my seat. I really hope you continue this.

I almost expected Derek to pull a "Will this house boat run and drive 600 miles?" Just to mess with people 😂

Vice Grip Garage is the best channel on the youtubes.   Thank you Derek

Hello Derek, some terms for you, The "Lower Controls" you called them are called the "Storm Helm", and underneath it with all those wires is your Perko Station. The Upper Controls are the Flying Bridge. When you board any vessel, the two most important things to check are your Seacocks & your Perko Station, "don't sink & no fires". The round caps in the lowest cabin area are your lowest "Seacock & bilge pump access!" I've watch your program for years. I was a deckhand for many years. Glad to contribute something to you. Be Safe! God bless.

I swear I could watch a guy tinker on just about anything, but a boat is a real treat! Happy labor day weekend Derek, family and all viewers! 🎉

My dad started working at Gibson in 1981 he worked there up until about 2006 when a tornado took the building out he was the main engine installer from late 90s through the 2000's, unfortunately lost him 2 years ago but i remember running around on those old Gibsons as a kid while he was down in the engine compartment. Thanks for bringing me back some good memories!!!

Hey Derek, just a tip I learned from working on a left hand crusader in my early years as a marine tech. If you need a left hand coolant pump a serpentine water pump off a 90s Chevy pickup will work because it runs off the back side of the belt and runs the opposite way.
Also I love any boat content you do because up on the north coast of Canada we don’t really get a chance to see old cars that are worth saving but I’ve been in many bilges that are very similar to this one.

The happiest day is yet to come with this houseboat. The day you sell it!

P. S. ,, ALWAYS, ALWAYS  !!  Run your engine room exhaust fan for several minutes BEFORE starting your engines or any time running your engines while stationary ,, gas fumes are heavier than air and a leak can accumulate in the hull  of the engine room and a spark can be catastrophic !!! 😉👍🇺🇸🙏

This really brings back some memories! Got a job as lead mechanic at a marina just out of high school, wrenching on all kinds of boats. Learned engines, outdrives, inboards, outboards, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, wood working, fiberglass... Those were some fun days, every spare minute was spent on the lake!

I hadn't watched a video of yours in a while... life gets busy. I watched this one... I'm hooked again! I forgot how fun it is to watch your channel!

What the what!!! Gosh we are kindred spirits! What an amazing gift you’ve brought to the channel this week. All though I never tire of watching you bring old cars/trucks back from the brink, you bringing this house boat back from the drink, is such a refreshing treat!! Thank you !

I can hardly wait for the small plane episode!

My family had one of these in the late 80s early 90s, it actually sunk in the slip with water coming in the front, insurance called it “normal wear and tear”. So dad went and did the right thing and bought a brand new 93’ Gibson sport series and had it for a couple decades. I remember him fighting that old kohler generator every Saturday morning like a ritual! This brings back a ton of memories!!
