I'm Marty, a 76-year-old New Yorker discovering music I've missed along the way — one song at a time. Today I'm hearing Avenged Sevenfold – The Stage for the very first time.

NOTE: At 11:35, when I say Metallica’s “One” was blocked, I meant my reaction video to that song was blocked—not Metallica’s official video. My reaction to Metallica’s “One” has since been published. 👍🏻

Official Avenged Sevenfold – "The Stage" music video used in this reaction:

On Grandpa's First Listen, you'll see my genuine first-time reactions to songs from hip-hop and rap to rock, metal, pop, R&B, country, indie, electronic, and everything in between. Old Ears. New Music.

And as always, keep the recommendations coming. I'm building my list from YOUR comments.

Every song is a first listen. Thanks! 👍

NOTE: At 11:35 in this video, I mentioned Metallica’s “One” video. To clarify, I meant that my reaction video to “One” was initially blocked due to copyright claims. I didn’t mean that Metallica’s official music video for “One” is blocked—it isn’t. My reaction video is now public while the copyright disputes are being reviewed. 👍🏻

This was my first time hearing Avenged Sevenfold, and “The Stage” didn’t disappoint! Thanks for all the recommendations and for joining me on these first listens!

Great reaction. It’s funny that we humans think we’re an intelligent species, but we aren’t—what intelligent species destroys itself?

The story alone…insane then the instrumental…insane…then to top it off with a video to match like that…this song isn’t talked about enough

Marty, this is my first video of yours, and I loved it! I'm glad you have found Avenged; they've been my favorite band for 20 years. I highly recommend you listen to their album " The Stage " in its entirety; it's amazing. 2 other songs I would recommend are from their newest album, "Life is but a dream"; they are titled "Nobody" and "Cosmic" and both have similar production music videos as well. Cheers, and looking forward to more videos!

8:05 "When did the Walking Apes decide that Nuclear War was the Only solution for them keeping the Score?" What an impactful lyric, given that it truly sums up the entirety of this song and video's message. Loved this band, and this album since release 💙❤

Moral of the story here:We never learn from our mistakes. We just attack each other for no real reason We aren't good. We aren't bad. God didn't give us free will for any specific reason. We do what we want with it. It fucks us up, it helps us grow. Life isn't always pretty. That's just life. We are just tall, lanky, walking apes with bigger brains.

The audience's reactions reveal that while some initially disliked the acts of killing, they gradually became accustomed to witnessing such scenes and ultimately came to enjoy the spectacle of violence and murder. That is how the global elite influences our minds.

Sir, you even noticed how the audience reacted, that's so cool

I’d consider myself pretty much a casual Avenged fan, and I’ll say The Stage is a perfect song. It is flawless and everything I love about music.

You should listen to more Avenged Sevenfold, man their lyrics are unbeaten. So allegoric. Really nice reactions, glad I found some reaction channel that actually pays attention to details. Keep it up, I'm here to watch some more of Avenged reactions!
