Iirc the moral of cannibal holocaust was essentially like.. kinda the exact opposite of green inferno. The documentary film crew were monsters that came in and started murdering tribal people for "content". Their first contact with the tribe is setting their village on fire and filming it. It's outright said that their previous films in war torn Africa they'd pay soldiers to kill people on camera. It was an anti-exploitation message... that just so happened to be made with a grotesque amount of exploitation that entirely cancels it out like making a snuff film about how murder is bad.

What pissed me off was he claimed the movie was a tribute to Cannibal Holocaust which despite its own problems was an extremely harsh critique of the mondo film genre by the director. He by the few available accounts genuinely loathed the directors of mondo cane and a few other Italian mondo films. Green Inferno understood none of that critique. Also Eli Roth later joked he wanted Greta Thunberg to be eaten by cannibals on his instagram. Dude is just a terrible person

I noticed a pattern with these film painting activism as "fake", as if the idea of having empathy for another person or a different culture is a bad thing, 21:06 skull Island W.

Funnily enough Amazonian tribes are usually the SUBJECT of the violence, usually from the Brazilian military at the behest of private interest groups and ranchers. One thing that is worth remembering about any activist group is that people always vary in how well they understand any particular topic, often with the smarter people struggling to get the less smart people to better. The issue Eli Roth used in this movie, voluntourism, is a real life problem involving stupid attempts at activism. Roth just doesn't cover it in good faith or with any nuance.

I have despised Eli Roth for over a decade, since I was a teenager. He's always come across as a talentless, pretentious, industry plant. Now that I'm older, I realize that I'm wrong. He's actually worse than that.
It's so cathartic that more people are turning on him.
