The tragic comedy of human civilization, a rich brand poisoned the entire world, a sin that not even death is a suitable punishment, and get away with it with a slap on the wrist.

It's impossible to feel sorry for any big corporations because of this. The fact that there is little to no fallout is infuriating.

Without getting banned or investigated, I must conclude that certain people in power need to... not... be here. Anymore.

This was a truly eye opening video, and actually made me rethink some of the things I use and consume. Love seeing Veritasium getting more reactions. Derek does a lot of science and math videos and even does more pop culture(ish) videos like one where one of his producers spent 24 hours in Japan helping  make the steel used in katana making from creating the charcoal used in the large smelting furnace, all the way to finalizing the blade with blade smiths.

It angers me so much that these people made a product, determined it was dangerous and did nothing about it. And they're going to get no punishment for it. It's so utterly, completely evil.

42:52 YES. In Appalachia it's all the same old story. Lead, petrochemicals, coal waste, nitrates... They don't call Kanawah county Chemical Valley for nothing...

Oh there was a great documentary about Dupont.. they are probably one of the most evil none weapon manufacturers companies existing to this day..  They were fully aware of the damage they caused.

I myself never owned a Teflon pan, but I down own and use Ceramic coated pans. As far as I know they're less toxic than Teflon, but just as weak to scraping and overheating. It really does all come down to caring for your cook-wear, don't abuse it, clean it correctly, and it will stay in your family for years to come. Oh, we do own and use a reverse osmosis filter system for our drinking water. Good stuff.

All the comments about straws here. Plastic straws, paper straws, metal straws. Just drink from the bloody cup! Then wash the bloody cup!

i actually bought a set of metal straws so i don't have to use paper ones. Cleaning them is easy i just chuck them into boiling water for 15-20 minutes.

I notice a pattern: what's with the corporations/brands becoming extremely unhinged and amoral whenever they become successful and famous? Like, do they systematically develop a plethora of mental illnesses because there's nothing left to do?

It should be noted for those looking to get a carbon water filter for PFAS, basically all your common carbon will not do much. You'll see it's almost always coconut husk derived carbon, but research on the matter shows that it's ineffective, only coal based carbon filtration works.

great video!
Would be really nice if you reacted to more veritasium videos. The one about the blue LED is especially nice

Funny how this video of yours came out right after i watched the movie Erin Brockovich

I'd seen this before, thanks for the explanations and extra context. We're screwed; every couple of decades, a new "miracle" chemical is discovered.

Remembering rivers in Colombia ALL OF THEM HAVE THAT FOAM

Back then when I go to restaurants that gives paper straws on drinks rather than plastics I always say in my mind "nooo why paper straws it will only dissolve on the drink nooo". Now I feel like I owe those restaurants an apology. 😂

🔥🔥🔥

I love the mustache, it's like a 90s Copstache

Time to call back Luigi but it’s not insurance this time
