Behold: Democracy 2.0 - Every one crosses out the candidate they hate the most.

As one of those hundred people in Pennsylvania I'm glad he recognizes how important I am.

HEXAGONS ARE BESTAGONS

Damm imagine the world if al gore won instead of bush, they didnt even want bush

Proportional representation is the best. Scotland leading the world as always. SCOTLAND FOREVER.

"Sushi if the guy foots the bill. That's kind of like our elections now." Weellll... no? The guy voting sushi is the guy who can afford to pay for sushi but conveniently when it comes time to pay he says "oh you wouldn't believe this! My wallet is in my other pair of pants in... Bermuda." Then inevitably the poor people take on massive amounts of debt to pay for his sushi.

13:28 LOL. It's almost like people in America wishing for a better voting system manifested a book telling them of one.

4:10 If you look at the votes it was an anomaly that he got that many votes. It was set up to be confusing to vote, such that people would accidentally vote for the green party, even though they meant to vote for the democrat. Even the green party leader said he didn't believe most of the people who voted for him actually were trying to vote for him, also during the recount they found that it seemed that bush actually was going to lose the recount, since the person in charge of the election was a member of Bush's election team they canceled the recount, and the republicans in the supreme court voted along party lines to forcefully take the presidency.

14:28 I believe the Serene Republic of Venice did that model. Lasted 800 years and only messed up like once. Surprisingly effective for trading economies.

5:15 Hexagons are the bestagons. CGP Grey will be hearing about this.

13:38 why the cut?

If nobody gets more than 50%, just send the 2 most voted to a second round of voting. Jesus.

watching the chat reactions around 20min mark is actually insane. You would think atrioc viewers would have at least be around high school level of education, to understand a dumbed down to primary school level version of this proof

I like that I dont live in a representational democracy and you just get to vote individually om every single law. We still elect a parliament but outside of war/emergencies they dont really get to do much if anything. You can always go around and collect sufficient signatures and force a binding vote on an issue.

Where I live, it's 4-7 parties, you vote for your preferred candidates in order of preference

The majority voted of the party with most votes wins for their respective party.  The coalition negotiations begin, for others tp join the coalition. Since you need xx% of total votes combined to truly win. This guaranteed there's at least 3+ parties involved in decision-making.

Regarding the dnd voteception check, we already have the perfect framework. Just keep the current voting system, and the number of electoral college votes you get is the number of d20s you roll and the person with the highest score wins

The pivotal voter thing is a stupid constraint. You could look at it as a democratically selected decision maker because they are a societal median. If they are a dictator, it is by the preference of the people being balanced. More realistically, it’s just a result of the analytic framing that one person can be labeled this way

There is a post in first past the post, it's the point at which it becomes mathematically impossible for anyone else to win.  It's not usually seen in the most basic system because it depends on everyone, or at least most everyone, actually voting.  It is seen often in the electoral college, which is how they call the elections once the electoral vote threshold is reached, i.e. the post.

Democracy is always going to be flawed. You can't have a democracy without having dictatorship in it someway.
