Testimony of Allison Ozga in the Lindsay Clancy trial regarding her sister's mental health in late 2022 and January 2023:
Witness Background
• Relationship with her Sister: They are very close. They have lived in different states for about ten years and keep in touch by text and occasional phone calls.
• Occupation: Licensed social worker and mandated reporter.
Fall and Winter 2022
• Thanksgiving 2022: First in-person visit in quite some time. Texts had already shown struggle. In person, Lindsay's mood and energy looked low and "off."
• Early December: Mental health decompensated. Lindsay texted she was in a "really tough spot." Allison asked if she was safe. Lindsay said yes.
• Worsening: Allison began texting Pat directly. Lindsay reported worsening mood, depression, insomnia, and daily suicidal thoughts. She also described feeling scared, numb, and hopeless.
• Medications: Allison knew Lindsay was seeing doctors and trying different prescriptions. She knew of a severe negative reaction to Zoloft in October.
• McLean: Around New Year's, Lindsay voluntarily admitted herself to McLean Hospital and was discharged about five days later while weaning off Seroquel. After discharge she said she felt positive about the plan and was starting to feel better.
January 2023
• Cora's birthday: Trampoline park. Lindsay looked tired, still struggling, "going through the motions."
• January 24: Their mother called to say the children had been killed. Allison drove to South Shore Hospital but could not see Lindsay there. After transfer to Brigham and Women's, she visited about two weeks later and has visited regularly since.
• Parents: Their parents (Connecticut) have spent most of the time since then in Massachusetts hotels to visit Lindsay almost daily.
Cross-Examination
• McLean: She could not recall Lindsay saying she needed to leave McLean early specifically for Cora's birthday.
• Police interview (January 25): She told police that about two weeks earlier Lindsay "seemed okay," and that texts seemed "a bit" better after discharge.
• Contact: Almost all post-discharge contact was by text, not calls. A January 19 text seemed okay. She did not visit the home in January.
• Mandated reporter: Between January 1 and January 24 she did not have enough concern about Lindsay or the children to file a report.
