I'm 49, and I live alone in Tokyo.

This time I went out for the day. From Nippori station, through the old streets of Yanaka, to a bakery that opened three years ago, inside an old wooden house. I waited forty minutes to get in.

Then Ueno Park, and shiratama cream zenzai at Mihashi. The same thing I order every time.

Campagne, milk France and olive oil came home with me.

Where I went:

Nippori Station. The sign has cat ears.
Tennoji Temple, Yanaka
Think. A bakery that opened in 2023, inside Ueno Sakuragi Atari: three old wooden houses.
OshiOlive. Salt and olive oil, next door.
Tokyo University of the Arts
Ueno Park and Shinobazu Pond
Mihashi. Shiratama cream zenzai, 850 yen.

From June to August the pond is covered in big pink lotus flowers. Today, just the leaves.
