Advice! Don’t write it as if you just did it, write it as if you were reminiscing on the time you were away. How you felt to experience and see all the things you did. Instead of saying ‘oh I did this today blah blah blah’ be like ‘Well my trip in Boston made me feel like..’ ‘I was grateful to experience..’ ‘I hope to go back..’ etc etc.

ughh i totally get you when you talk about feeling disconnected about the pages being outdated, its so annoying !! it happened to me when i finished highschool, i was so overwhelmed i didn't even want to journal about it and i had to force myself to do it anyway because i wanted to keep the memory 😭sometimes life happens faster than you can put in pages but i think you can still make like a little recap and write about it as a past experience and not in a present way, maybe that gives you a different perspective and makes it easier to write and move on even though it wasn't the ideal :(

Hey Lainey! Please don’t beat yourself up over not journaling while you were away- if anything the gap in the ‘timeline’ just shows that you were having an awesome time and really living in the moment. It’s only meant to be a fun hobby, so if catching up is draining you then don’t bother, or maybe just do a sentence or two about each day traveling? (also you are stunning! 💕)

i totally get the whole chronological order thing, i a similar problem a while back, and so when i went on holiday this summer, i took a spare journal with me. that way i could write about my trip as it happened and then when i got home i did all the sticking in of my junk and decorating it and stuff and then i'd write up the journal entries onto the page after. it meant that everything i wrote was authentic and from the time, but i didnt have to worry about the organisation until i got home

I really love your honesty here. What I try to do is when a big moment is happening if I can't immediately do a whole journal spread about it, I like to just write about it quickly in my notes app so atleast I have my immediate thoughts written down. Then whenever I get the time or mood for journaling, i make the page with all the photos and stuff and just write down from the notes app (this is also great because if you want to add how you feel about it now in retrospect, you can add that as well). ❤

I SOOO RELATE TO WHAT YOU ARE SAYING, I always feel really guilty whenever I don't journal for a while, especially when I go through big things and don't write about them. It can make me feel so awful I don't want to pick up my journal at all. Thank you for showing me I'm not crazy haha, and also for the great solution tip, I will be trying this :)

i had a similar experience. i studied abroad in tokyo and the buildup to the experience, the experience, and the return to my home country was the most wild year and a half of my life. it was INSANE. life got in the way and i couldn’t journal except for very sporadically. I got home, still felt like i couldn’t journal. then i had a horrible, horrible night and i came home sobbing and i sat down to write it out. I opened my journal and was met with a pre-study-abroad me from almost a year ago. It was even worse because the night I just had was heavily emotional in part because I had studied abroad. I thought, “this girl on this page right next to the one i’m about to write on doesn’t know who I am! the journey is not here. the experience and the ride is not there. it’s like skipping the entire exposition of a movie.” I wrote anyway because I just needed to get it out, but while writing, I truly felt so disconnected to the journal. I never wrote in it again after that!

You spent time in the moment and actually enjoyed the limited moment as it was happening, hell yeah 💕

Don’t write from a past perspective. Just write as you are today to that past version of you that traveled there or experienced it.

Ask her how it went, tell her what you remember. Anything you learned or what realizations did you have later on that gave that moment clarity.

I love how you turned it around, admitted to what was bothering you, and then turned to your happy place and got yourself out of the "slump." Good on you! Your inspiration and trying helped me for ideas when I fall into one of these slumps <3

I am always at least 4 months behind in my physical journal because life is busy. Somthing I find helpful is to keep a google doc where I do the writing portion (sometimes ill write the whole entry or just bullet points depending on how much time I have). That way when I go to write about it in my journal I'm not starting from scratch.

girl i’ve been waitingggg for another upload from you! i love your videos!

i totally understand this! i had a journal that i started with the first semester of college to try and capture the new experience of college. it turned out to be absolute hell (the university was NOT a good fit) and i ended up abandoning it halfway through cause i couldn't bring myself to write about how i was doing better in the same journal where i was NOT okay
Edit: what a friend of mine has done is set up the pages for previous events and then continuing as if they are actually finished, eventually going back to finish them when they have the time

I totally understand on what your feeling, it's okay to feel that way but it's ok to catch up on all the spreads even if it's two months out. I would recommend to have two separate journals one that you may create for a specific trip and the everyday to day one. it helped me on holiday where  I brought a different journal from my main journal where I documented all of my holiday (this was mainly writing as I wanted to document everything that I wanted to document on the trip). with this second journal it could be a small notebook where you could write about everything that happened on the trip and then when you come back home from the trip/holiday you could insert everything into your main journal.

I hope this is helpful advice!

Omg girl this is totally relatable :( im the same with my daily journaling

I am so happy to see that you are back! Congrats on 10k Lainey! Your journalling routine will be back, and we all believe in you! You got this Lainey! My forever inspiration x ❤💙🤍

I also hate when journals are outdated! I have a travel journal and even just copying the notes I'd written daily into it when I got home was a chore. I keep finding flyers and maps from previous trips though, so I found that embracing the chaos and pasting them in with notes about what I remember from that trip or moment takes the pressure off and will still be just as fun to look back on

What I do when I get like this is I make a photo collage. That way the memorises are in my journal just in a different way because sometimes it’s hard to write a recent memory and it’s hard to remember how you felt when it happened.

Thank you for this video 🙏 love the honesty about feeling disconnected from journalling and the ideas for getting out the slump. Youre doing great ❤

Just discovered your channel and it’s such a safespace!! Don’t be  too hard to your self 💫

I can relate so much, I am having the same mood about journaling recently.
