Self-compassion (cf. Kristin Neff)

(a) Kindness/lovingness toward oneself in painful life situations or in the face of failure, as opposed to harshness and self-criticism. This includes recognizing imperfection, mistakes, and difficulties as part of human existence.

(b) Common humanity, the experience of being part of a larger human experience shared by all people, as opposed to the experience of separation and isolation from others.

(c) Mindfulness, in the sense of perceiving negative feelings and thoughts but keeping them in balance, rather than identifying too strongly with them.
