“I know we have an 11 year old at home but let’s go climb Mt Everest without supplemental oxygen !”

Imagine being a landmark, not because you accomplished anything, but because your body is just there.

What breaks my heart are the Sherpas who died as a result of the poor decision of their clients. Even worse, they are paid so little for the task. The rules while on Everest have to be tightened up, and the guides deserve far more in compensation.

The best thing about climbing Everest is that you never have to do it

@tomcharlton586 11 months ago

fun fact - every corpse on everest was once a highly motivated person.

As a father, the idea of going on an extremely dangerous and expensive personal vanity quest to the top of Everest with no oxygen seems infuriatingly selfish and reckless. They earned their fates but their son didn’t deserve to lose both his parents like that. It’s so sad and stupid. Your kids need you more than you need some title.

There should be a sign at base camp that reads; “You’re not special.”

The irony of talking about how uncaring and unfeeling people who walked past sharp on everest were only to then compare it to and jump into an ad read

@Shooo716 1 year ago

If I learned anything today, its that the safe time to turn back is by 2 pm

Imagine dying on Everest and having someone do an ad read while describing your death. That’s enough reason for me to never climb it.

4:08 come on now in the big year of 2025 saying Hilary was the first person to summit when it was TWO people : him and Tenzing Norgay. Let’s not forget Sherpas. Please.

what is with the obsession to go without oxygen tanks? that's like giving yourself a death sentence.

@HeyIDKwhatILove 1 year ago

I only learn a few things.
1) never climb without supplemental oxygen
2) never go past 2 pm
3) never climb alone or proceed with too much pride
4) never attempt to climb at all
