Reason #6: You can’t decide which freaking cover to pick!!!

I’m super excited to back the Collector’s edition and added the Iron coins because I’m crazy about metal or heavy components. I think this game will certainly hold a place of esteem in my collection.

Man...I know the feeling.
I've been a huge fan of Brass since the first Roxley Kickstarter, and both versions get to the table fairly regularly.
I was eagerly anticipating the gamefound backing opening for Pittsburgh, and figured I'd back it immediately but...it's a lot of money.
Now I probably AM leaning towards picking up the CE at this point; I'm generally on board with paying for upgraded games-because as shallow as it sounds, having nicer components DOES increase my enjoyment of a game. While it's not exactly a good financial argument, I can also justify spending a decent chunk of change on this because of how much I've enjoyed the last two games-as a kind of continuing investment in a company that makes things I like.
The CE looks really nice with the cubes and barrels, the tins are very pretty (though I'm hopeful there will be space enough for an organizer system in them), and while my cardboard tokens in my game sets are doing just fine, I'm not against the wooden ones adding a quality feel.
Plus as much as I like normal cards, I kind of hate sleeves, and my current decks (especially in Birmingham) are getting pretty thrashed at this point. So while I may not like the PVC cards quite as much, if they live longer, it's a good trade. I might even need to get one of those replacement decks they're selling for BB.
I will say on a personal level it's kind of funny how hard they're pushing the NoGlare board thing on the page, because while I'm not against it; it's definitely not a problem I ever noticed, and it's not really swaying me at all.

That said though, even though I know inflation is a thing, and world trade right now is not what it was 7 years ago, the sticker shock of the CE costing more than both Lancashire AND Birmingham CE's did together in the first kickstarter including the clays, which this one doesn't, well, that hit my enthusiasm pretty hard.
I'm not knocking not including the clays btw; I know a lot of people are probably in the same boat as me where I already have a set from BL or BB, and don't need to pay for another set that won't get used.
I also think they definitely botched the drop a bit in not revealing all of the features of the CE. WITH everything revealed, it feels like a pricey, but fair cost as everything is fancified.
BEFORE everything was revealed, it kind of felt just...slightly above average, for a significantly above average price. That plus the strategy of revealing things as stretch goals that required funding, always just out of reach just felt...bad.
Though I've always hated stretch goals tied to funding that aren't laid out at the beginning, so that might just be my bias.
TL:DR before they revealed everything I wasn't getting it despite being a huge Brass fan, since they're revealed everything I probably WILL get the CE, though it is a bit pricy.

Also while I love the coins, I will not be getting them, as they cost too much for me.
I've been on the side of making and selling things before, so I know how the cost of producing things can be more than it feels like it should be from the consumer side sometimes, so I won't begrudge them pricing them so high.
I might have been swayed if they were like, 80USD even. If they become a thing that Roxley offers in the future, I could see myself getting them separately at some point in time.
But there's been more games than usual for me that have had kickstarters recently (Old Kings Crown, the John company 2e reprint, and now this), and I just can't rationalize it.

EDIT
One last thing, is I'm wondering how much I'll be playing BB once Pittsburgh comes out. Because right now it's like if we want a really tight competitive game, we go for BL, if we want a more complicated, but less punishing game, we go BB. BP seems like BB dialed up to 11, which is great...but feels like it might be leaving BB in a bit of a weird middle spot

Error, I seem to now be interested in getting it after you reminded me how much I like Brass Birmingham.

Seeing those prices made this an easy choice!

So far, the only 5 reasons nominee I regret not backing is Puerto Rico. I thought I might be able to get it at retail for about the same factoring in the savings from shipping but prices have just skyrocketed. The Merchant pledge that was $146 + $24 for shipping is now available at GN for $330! That's almost 100% "mark-up". God dang! 😂

You should almost redo the end of this video with all the stretch goals revealed. The collectors edition looks a lot more enticing with all of them included but could still be too much for some. But I feel it at least makes reason #1 a little less lopsided

Thank you. You talked me off the ledge with your Number 1. I can wait until retail and support my friendly local game store at the same time!

Thanks for this video. Just yesterday I sent s message to a friend saying how much I wanted this game but that I wasn't sure the deluxe edition was worth it. This really helped solidify my thinking

I was going to wait for retail after the first couple days thinking that they wouldn’t reach all of their stretch goals and I wasn’t sold on the CE at that point. Now that everything has been revealed, I’m about 90% on the yes side to CE, but I haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I’m still letting things simmer for a bit.

I’m primarily a solo gamer and this was one of the easier day one backs for me.

A big reason you missed. If you only play Brass (insert city name) a few times a year. I play Birmingham once, maybe twice a year. I want to have the new hotness, but there is so much milage with Birmingham I've yet to see.

I think those wooden tiles are going to be absolutely awesome.

Not quite the same as Ra where you're reaching into a bag and fiddling with the tiles... but still moving them around and manipulating wood is just always more satisfying (for me) compared to cardboard.

I think that's a huge upgrade, and definitely worth the cost alone. The other upgrades are icing on the cake for me :)

You did a great job of talking me into it.

Thanks, I needed that.

Best breakdown. Thanks.

Thank you for the overview. I have been waiting for quite a while for a good opportunity to jump onto the Brass bandwagon, and it seems that this will be the one. Yes, the price is steep (especially when you compare it to things like Gloomhaven or Frosthaven, that cost 100 USD each for WAY more content...) but if the game is worth it, it's worth it. The "best" games on my shelve have 100+ playing hours on them, if Brass jumps into that range too, the price becomes almost irrelevant.

Excellent video sir - just found you because of this video. I didn’t know how I was going to take it 😜.

The release of all the stretch goals was a lovely move - albeit one that was forced by the many people complaining about value, which was fair. I’m a day one backer of the CE’s because I love the series, and as my first kickstarter I was ignorant of how the SG’s would work - so I was happy with the cloth bags etc 😅.. but with the release of all the deluxified upgrades - oh boy am I happy.

(Oh and whilst I wasn’t bothered with a solo mode as my boardgame club meets every Monday - I can usually get it tabled pretty regularly. The release of a solo mode was a +1. Just means I can  have a little game at home whenever I wish.)

No more cloth bags! Honestly the stretch goals revealed was such a huge 360 for me. The cost seems true for the value now for sure. I am excited about wood coins too, that sounds fun to figit with between turns

You should do a rereview now of the collectors now that all stretch goals are released and that they’re not releasing the collectors edition again!
