I have one that I purchased in the early 90s. Love this amp! I recapped the unit about 6 years and it is still rock solid. Nice to have the bottom service panels.
Rotel was a solid name in hifi back in the day, They have made some seriously good and aesthetically pleasing audio devices , The blown fuse is more than likely down to the previous owner pushing the amp to it's limits in Bridge mode, the stressed fuse is on the side he wired his speakers to,
Nice observation on differece between blown fuse states, something alot of people don't consider on first inspection.
Rotel, used to be the Rolls-Royce of HiFi amp, noted for their reliability and quality, really were good amplifiers, and like all good stuff, they were never cheap and outside many budgets.
Yep! Nothing spectacular, but with decent looking transformers and reasonably sized heatsinks, a solid enough build. Certainly worth the fettle time you put into it. Many thanks for the talk through.
Funny, I just had an amp exactly like the one you have, the thermal fuse in one of the transformers was disconnected, plus one of the small silver colored capacitors in the middle of the PCB was shorted, it started working again when I got the transformer fixed and the capacitor replaced
Great experiments with fuses and input cap. The input cap can be upgraded to film, if OEM is electro. Rotel is bit like NAD ... make it in Far East to save costs. But the topology and performance can be quite good as you've shown.
Hello...my Son has Rotel Stuff...2 rb 950 with a preamp. They are very reliable and good build. The caps are still in good shape. I resoldered them and put some pads under the transformators, to reinforce the plate under them. They are pretty heavy ! The plate deformes under the weight, when you move the amp....🤔
I have its big brother, the four channel model. I forget the model number. But it’s a very high quality unit. I have the home theater preamp, processor that goes with it.
It's weird. I've had quite a few Rotels of that generation across my bench including the RB-850 and so rx-920s etc. none of the had problems etc blown fuse. I checked for bad solder and caps etc but (like you) could never find much.
