The last survivor of the titanic died in 2009
Her name was Milvina Dean she was two months old when the titanic sank she died at age 97

When she dies at the end and we see them reunite and then we think back to that note he gave her 'Make it count, meet me at the clock' ... she made her life count and at the end she met him at the clock

“ She’s made of iron sir. I assure you she can… “ That stuck with me for 28 years… to this day…

"Something Picasso."

Bear in mind, the Titanic's maiden - and last, of course - voyage was in 1912. Picasso, born in 1881, would've been just 31 or so at the time of the sinking so hadn't really built up a reputation yet - he was still just a young up and comer. Also, Freud would've been in practice for only about 30 years or so and, with no internet or even television, word of his theories would've been much slower to spread.

One specific fact about all of this is that the violin playing band leader's violin was actually recovered after this, sent back to his fiance, donated to a violin teacher, and then stored in an attic until ~20 years ago. It took years of testing, but they confirmed it was the actual violin that played music for the victims as the Titanic was sinking. That's one of the coolest pieces of history ever. Sadly, it was sold at auction even though it should be in a museum.

Titanic is one of my favorite movies. I cry everytime during the whole tragedy

I think also people forget when the ship loses power it’s pitch black out there. There was no moon light bc the moon was just a sliver. So, aside from the terror of the ship sinking - it was compounded by the fact that no one could see what was happening

The scene when Jack and Rose reunite at the grand staircase after she jumps back on the ship, James Cameron had actually finished filming the scene and getting his coverage of it for the day and was ready to move on. Leo stopped him and asked for one more take "for the actors" which is where they can just do the scene one more time without having to follow the script word for word. James obliged and did one more take of it. When Kate ran into Leo's arms, Leo lifting Kate up off the floor wasn't scripted so her reactions were genuine and it got her more into the emotional state of the moment. Now it's the scene that we get to see.

Let me answer a few things about the sinking

1. Titanic hit the iceberg at 11:40pm on April 14, 1912 and sank at 2:20am on the 15th. So it was 2 hours and 40 minutes.

2. A lot of people talk about there not being enough lifeboats. While that is true, they still had more lifeboats than what was required at the time. The thought process was the boats were to ferry people to another nearby ship and keep going back and forth. Either way, they wouldn’t have had time to launch all of them (at least two of them washed off the ship).

3. The reason there was no sense of urgency at first was because they didn’t tell people the true extent of what was going on (if they even knew themselves) to avoid a panic.

3. They didn’t actually lock people down in the lower levels or actively prevent them from getting up to the boats. But they essentially left them to fend for themselves. Many of them were immigrants who did not speak English, and they were not given guidance on what to do or where to go.

4. It is true about them not filling the boats to capacity. The worry, as was mentioned, was too many people weighing them down.

5. There is some debate over the officer who ended himself. It has never been proven for sure he was the one who did it, if anyone did at all. The filmmakers apologized to his descendents after they were upset over his portrayal.

6. The elderly couple seen in bed together were real people. Isidor Strauss was co-owner of Macy’s. His wife Ida refused to get on a boat without him and he refused to take a spot while women and children were still on board. They went down with the ship together.

7. The band actually did play until very close to when the ship went down. The song during that montage was “Nearer My God to Thee” which was reportedly the last song they played. All eight of them died in the sinking.

8. Survivors said even years later the most haunting thing was the screams of the people in the water. One of them had a hard time because he lived near a baseball field and the cheers of the crowds during games reminded him of that.

The survivors reportedly said the band last song they were playing was "Nearer, My God, To Thee", which was the song they started playing when they came back together.

A lot of what puzzles you in the movie about people during the sinking-- their initial calm, the early lifeboats being half empty, the steward expecting Jack to pay for a broken door-- is accurate to the fact that even right up to the final minutes few people believed the ship would actually sink. Historians aren't sure how many even of the officers and crew believed it, and certainly very few passengers did. The idea of the unsinkable ship was so ingrained that even when the ship broke in half, some people in the lifeboats thought "Ah, see, the stern will float, everything will be fine."
It's hard to understand how people could go on thinking that, but realizing that they did explains a lot of what happened on the Titanic.

“Why aren’t these ordinary people in the midst of the most horrifying circumstances ever not thinking and performing flawlessly?!!!”

Fun fact about the Celine Dion song My Heart Will Go On. That song was written last after the filming of the movie finished. The person who wrote the score for the movie (James Horner) didn't want to just have another instrumental piece play during the credits of the movie. He also knew that the director of the movie, James Cameron didnt want any songs in his film. So he wrote the song using the melody that he's been using throughout the film. Long story short, he asked Celine to record a demo of the song (she only recorded the song because her husband made her do it and she also did it in one take. So the vocals we hear when this song plays anywhere is actually the demo vocal she did) and when James Cameron was in a particularly good mood, James Horner presented the song to him. When James Cameron realized that the singer in the demo was his fellow Canadian Celine Dion and also because he actually also liked it, he just said let's put the song in the credits and thats that

Cameron’s vision for the script was “Romeo and Juliet on the Titanic,” and there really are lots of similarities. Star-crossed lovers, forbidden love, Cal is Prince Paris, Andrews is Friar Lawrence, Molly Brown is the Nurse, a tragic ending — even their first look is a nod, with him admiring her up on the “balcony.”

The way she says "It's well done for its time" made me feel so freaking old, 1997 doesn't seem that long ago for me lol

It should be mentioned that it's not true that 3rd class was locked away like animals. In reality many didn't understand the signs and couldn't find their way to the boat deck

"how many people were onboard?"

- How many onboard mr Murdoch?
- 2200 souls onboard sir...

“The sounds of people drowning are something that I can not describe to you, and neither can anyone else. It’s the most dreadful sound and there is a terrible silence that follows it.”
-Eva Hart, Titanic Survivor

I imagine that, when Rose reunites with Jack, she would tell him all the adventures and accomplishments she had in life. It would be her way of honoring and fulfilling the promise she made to him, and he'd relish every single one of her stories. What a gorgeous thought!

The most heartwrenching sound in this movie is the low and grieving metallic groan of the dying ship we hear in the second half...
