The video does a good job of showing that the outcome depends on the details, not just the headline idea. That distinction is easy to miss, but it’s usually what makes the advice actually useful.

I found that people buy when the piece means something to them. Whatever that is and it's all random and different.

One time I sold a photo of a big tree in black and white and a man loved it so much he bought it instantly and told me it reminded him of his mother who had passed away recently. He said the trunk was his mother and the branches him and his grandsons and everyone she helped to exist. I titled that photo "the world tree" but the title wasn't anywhere in the photo. It was cool hearing his story.

Another time a woman bought a photo of the Eiffel Tower because she wanted it as a reminder because she wanted someday to go to Paris. Like that I collected so many stories to find out how to sell more and all the stories were random but all of them were related to the buyer seeing something personal in the image.

Literally no one ever comes to my house, and I still want my surroundings to be beautiful. I still want to buy art I love and I still want my rug to match my furniture. 😂 I believe the human soul has a need for beauty, whether it's luxury or not. That's why we even make art.

I don't care if I make money on my art or not. I just want to share it. But knowing how to sell more means I get to share more.

I must be weird because i don't care what other people think - they don't normally come into my home. I want my home to look beautiful for me... 😂 And i love art for art, not because other people think it's expensive or prestigious.... and originals have texture and colours that prints don't 😅

I feel like there’s a big difference between “I don’t have the money” and “I don’t want to spend the money”.. that sends 2 different messages  for me .. Sometimes I just feel like it was meant for me to go  somewhere with people then I’d be blessed with the money to spend. I have experiences I cannot explain. Thank you for sharing the things you learn . I appreciate your time. ❤❤❤

Very insightful video! I do think that if we didn't care about luxury, we would still have art, but we would simply all make our own. I disagree that art is purely decorative/non-functional, I think most people would be psychologically miserable if they had to live in a home without color or visual interest. Art has a biological effect on us and is nutritionally necessary to interact with in our environment, similar to food or rest. I do agree that most of art consumption and display is just performative, though

I know that feeling, $79k biiweekly and people around me accused me of drug mover, saying big money don't come clean.

You're such a natural educator. Thanks for sharing what you've learned from books and from lived experience!

Whoo-hoo!  I'm first.  Art has no purpose.  It was easier to make when there was not only no reason to do it, but was the thing I did to avoid doing what I had to do.  When it did become something I had to do, it suddenly got hard.  I need to get in a mindset where I'm not thiinking about it as something I hope other people will buy, or that has to be sold, in order to get re-habituated into an addiction to making art that I had when I was a kid.  I think maybe you have had a similar experience when you decided to change your style.

A beautiful painting can give you pleaseure everytime you pass by it. That is doing something for me.

Your first five gallery shows are shown to likely determine your entire career. They are so very mportant. You want to be able to be in the highest status gallery you can.

I believe in the appreciation of beauty that could be anything because it's in the eye of the beholder. I like to paint landscapes because I believe that it is beautiful even in the desert. And my wife ,she's getting older. I stop and smell the flowers through life. People that are vain, have sore eyes.

I think you make great points about modern life and consumption culture; however, I also think that everything that you mentioned, from cars to homes and clothing etc, is all a part of art. Humans need that form of communication. When I look at history, archaeologists often discover fascinating aspects of human life from thousands of years ago through the artwork of different periods. Art reveals a lot about us as a species, so regardless of whether we individually value art, it is part of our human experience, and from what I can tell, it always has been and likely will always be so. I love your channel; you always provide great information and food for thought.

Look at everything I own and tell me advertising works.  lol.  I need a website that does that for my sculptures.

I’ve been a private art collector for over 25 years, and I found this video really interesting. Some of what you said resonates with me, and some of it I see quite differently.

I think part of that difference may simply be perspective. You’re approaching this subject as an artist, while I’m responding to it as someone who has spent many years collecting and living with art. Neither perspective necessarily represents everyone, and I can only speak for myself and the reasons I’ve chosen to collect.

I did find some of the broader statements about why people buy art surprising, because they don’t reflect my own experience as a collector. For me, collecting art has never been simply about having something to hang on a wall, nor is an original work interchangeable with a print. There are many reasons people choose to live with and collect original art, and I think collectors themselves can bring an important perspective to that conversation.

I’m not saying this because I think we need to agree. In fact, I think the disagreement is interesting. Your video made me think about why I collect and why I value original art, even though I came away disagreeing with some of your conclusions. And I adore that huge painting on your easel. Wow! I looked at some of your other videos and I see your wonderful success and the hard work and the results. Thanks again for this video. It opened my eyes a bit 😊

I’m so glad I found your channel!!!! 💚 THANK YOU!!!!

I do see a lot of truth behind the social aspects of us complicated humans! But I do think this is a very “masculine” or “western” view on the role that art plays in society and how it impacts us. I know most a things we do are for social reasons. But I do think there is an aspect to art that is very personal and fulfills psychological and meaning needs. They may not be physical immediate needs but I think they are more important than western society gives them credit for. When you walk into a beautiful space it really changes how you feel. The spaces we live in affect us more than we realize and I would argue with the author that art is not a non-essential only luxury good, but is actually beneficial for our wellbeing and essential for us to thrive. 😜

Great video, love your tips and the discount code!
