THE 1989 NBA FINALS AKA THE REMATCH OF THE 1988 NBA FINALS WOULD'VE BEEN A SLUGFEST & A CLASH OF THE TITANS. IF BYRON SCOTT & MAGIC JOHNSON NEVER GOT INJURED.
0:12 Brent Musburger says that “the Silverdome hosted a Super Bowl, and this (the 1988 finals) is the biggest happening since.” But that is simply not true… The biggest happening since was WrestleMania III a little over a year prior to this, as it set an indoor attendance record at the time of over 90,000 people… regardless of the actual figure, no area was curtained off for the WWF as it was here for the NBA, as tickets were sold for the entire circumference of the stadium, and the floor was virtually all filled, except for the small portion where the ring and entrance aisleway was. So, for better or for worse, WrestleMania III was no doubt a bigger happening/event than the NBA finals. At this time, and for a long time, the sports world and mainstream media did not want to recognize professional wrestling as legitimate in any way. The only reason that has changed today is because pro wrestling/WWE has become a part of the corporate structure… And some people would say that the WWE has sold out to the mainstream corporate structure today
