That first story is just heartbreaking. When I interviewed and got into grad school, my boyfriend at the time always found a way to make it about him. So glad he didn’t make it past six months into that new life.

She absolutely handled that poorly, however it can feel like you're literally dying when you're in a relationship with someone who has clearly abandoned you but still keeps you around.

It's one of the worst pains because it's so confusing. You think, "If they hate me so much then why don't they just break up with me!?" ... News flash, they hate you so much that they would rather see you suffer as well as still benefit from the relationship.

It feels so dysorienting when someone who called you family and agreed to always work through issues would suddenly rather hurt you.

It's like q shift in reality, you thought for sure this person would love and care for you as long as you tried your best, but people are inherently disappointing.

He was disappointed that she didn't go to the funeral and she was disappointed that he couldn't understand why she needed to stay behind.

Both people are incredibly hurt and are suffering... But that doesn't mean you get to be mean to your partner or self harm.

5:05– I’m autistic, and is something I’ve done this many times. I can’t tell if this is a common manifestation of emotional disregulation for OP— if they’re neurotypical and this kind of meltdown is solely being brought on by another person, that’s incredibly concerning. I second the suggestion of therapy— helped me a lot!

headbanging is a common thing for autistic people when they have a meltdown. I used to do it when I was younger but I grew out of it. I still throw the occasional tantrum when I meltdown but I'm trying to work on it

Hitting her own head was self harming. Self harming isn’t at all the same as taking out your aggression on objects in a way that threatens your partner

Im so confused about the 19 and 17 thing because they wouldve been 2 years apart in highschool at most which is such a common age group to make friends with eachother?? "Hang out with people ur own age" they ARE the same age, that could be someone who made friends as a freshman and sophomore in highschool which isnt a problem at all...

I'm gonna defend the whole "19 year old hanging out with 17 year olds" thing (not this specific one, but in general). In high school I had a really tight-knit group of different ages, mostly through marching band. I'm now 32 and I still hang out with some of them when we're in the same area. Maybe it's a difference of smaller town high schools and larger high schools?

What frustrated me about the first story was, aside from the obvious stuff, fact that the guy literally said he didn't even want to help. That right there pretty much solidifies to me that it's not really worth salvaging.

For the girlfriend, I do know a friend who had a hard time years after the break up when the ex was getting married. It was because they got clean and treated the new person better than they ever did to my friend. It was more of a 'why was I not worth this?'

1:17:55 Dude your age thing is out of control. This guy sucks a lot but there's a lot better criticism for him than being 19 and having a 17yo friend. It's at the very most two years. It's crazy that this dude is an actual demon and you're biggest critique is "19yos can't hang out with 17yos". Yes OP is a minor, so was the asshole last year. 18 isn't a magic number, this isn't a sexual relationship and even then many states account for this small of an age gap.

Brexit Vote - ​ the people of Britain narrowly voted to leave the European union.  This has had a devastating impact on the country.  The results were partially influenced by xenophobia which I think is why OP mentioned it .  This resulted in a somewhat stagnant UK economy, fewer employment opportunities, travel complexities, border disputes, multiple resignations by politicians and so much more.  The rhetoric at the time may have even impacted the 2016 US election in which Trump was first elected as president, campaigning on xenophobic fear mongering.

4:43 bro i have ADHD and before i went to therapy i did this all the time. whenever i was in distress id slam my head into the wall, slap myself in the face, punch my legs etc. after DBT im a lot better at handling my reactions, but the impulse to do it is still very much there
