Located in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Hagi is a beautifully preserved former samurai town with quiet streets, traditional merchant houses, temples, shrines, and a remarkable history that helped shape modern Japan.
In this silent travel vlog, we explore Hagi from the peaceful shores of Kikugahama Beach and Myojin Pond to the historic Hagi Castle Town. Along the way, we visit traditional residences, discover local food and cafés, experience a Kiheitai Parade, and learn about some of the most influential figures of the late Edo period.
We also visit Tōkōji and follow the stories of Takasugi Shinsaku, Itō Hirobumi and Yoshida Shōin, whose small school, Shōkasonjuku, educated young samurai who would later play important roles in the transformation of Japan.
Our journey ends at Shōin Shrine, bringing our trip through Yamaguchi to a close.
