Anyone who falsely accuses someone should suffer the same consequences as people who actually commit these vile crimes

I was a juror (edit: not on this case!) and we had several people on the jury who, during deliberation, were insisting “I think he is guilty”. Made me furious. It’s not about what you think, it’s whether or not the evidence supports a conviction! There are some absolute brainless idiots on juries, deciding the fate of someone without a clue what they are doing. Scary.

If you wrongly accuse someone of such a horrible crime and they are imprisoned, you should yourself be imprisoned for the same length of time

Anyone who makes a false accusation should face the exact same penalty the accused would have received if convicted. False allegations ruin innocent lives, destroy reputations, and undermine the justice system, so the consequences for the liar should perfectly match the severity of the crime they alleged.

There should be an automatic jail sentence to anyone found to have falsely accused someone of a crime.

Once the police decide you have done it, our justice system sets in motion, and excludes other possibilities, and once convicted it is extremely hard to correct a wrongful conviction.

Danny Day getting 9 months suspended for "perverting the course of justice" is crazy.

Poor man, I hope the clown who lied rots in hell along with the useless police and justice system.

A nine month suspended sentence... HOW CAN OUR JUSTICE SYSTEM BE SO PATHETIC

@riderofthewhitehorse8879 2 months ago

The investigators should be thrown in prison for ignoring obvious evidence of innocence.

This is heartbreaking, they stole 4yrs of that innocent man's life. I hope everybody involved with that sham case got fired from police to judge.

Danny Day is an utter disgrace!

His mental problems would probably have been taken into account because he’d been to his GP regarding his compulsive LYING…. BUT, he KNEW he lied and the ramifications were absolutely horrifying.

He should’ve received a LONG CUSTODIAL SENTENCE. He should’ve been been given TWICE the sentence his Victim was WRONGLY given.

An utter DISGRACE.

There is only one person worse than a child rapist and that’s someone who lies about being raped by an innocent man and ruining their lives. Those people should be thrown in prison and the key thrown away!

That barrister who sold items of her own to fund a private investigator for her client should be extremely proud of herself and in how she stood up for the truth….

Having a man named Memory reviewing old cases feels like a Bob Mortimer sketch

@thec0nch 2 months ago

and because of people like danny day, real victims are made a mockery of. disgustingly selfish.

This is my worst nightmare. To be accused of such a horrible crime knowing I was innocent knowing I’d be fighting for my life in jail.

9 months suspended sentence for getting somebody banged up and effectively ruining their lives…absolute joke our justice system needs a very serious overhaul.

@MalcolmJames100 2 months ago

Well done channel 4 for having the bravery to highlight this issue. Sadly it is much more common than the wider public are aware of. Unfortunately retrospectively being found innocent after being wrongly convicted still carries life long consequences that are irreversible.

@wormsnake1 2 months ago

A travesty of justice.

A false accusation that leads to prison time must equally and categorically be a jail sentence.

So sorry for David and all his loved ones.
