but if you are using a stainless steel or iron container, the table salt has to be eliminated, it corrodes the container very quickly

If no one has mentioned this yet, put some glass beads - or even cm-sized broken pieces of glass - in your reaction flask. The weight of the glass on the heated surface will initiate the water (or, really, anything) to boil in a much more controlled manner. Part of why you get this 'bumping' is because of superheating, by having the nucleation sites from the glass contacting the heating surface, the liquid never gets superheated, thus no bumping.

FYI: Wood ash is the white stuff. You used pyrolized wood. AKA charcoal. It will still have the potash components in it, but the experiment should be repeated with the white wood ash.

If you put solar panels on the bus, have a small separate pod for the batteries and electronics, extra panels on the pod, and a separate back up generator, you’d have a self sustaining research lab.

If you are eating potash from wood ash you need to boil the wood ash in water to extract it. Filter and exaporatr off the water.
I'd always recommend some anti bumping granules to distillation - or use some crushed glass.
The salt should help demulsify the waste oil going in.

Try converting dry food waste into fuel. Allow the resulting product to separate into two phases: water and biofuel. Vaporize the biofuel separately, then pass it through a hot catalytic cracking layer containing calcium oxide, sodium carbonate, and sodium hydroxide. These substances break down the fuel, making its properties more similar to those of hydrocarbon oils. Afterward, it can be blended with diesel and gasoline. I love and appreciate what you're doing.

As pointed out by many, the carbon was not wood ash.
And therefore functioned more like activated carbon or carbon black.

This experiment needs to be done again with proper wood ash.
Because it behaves more like caustic soda.
Therefore, producing more of an acid wash effect or similar?

Hopefully I got that right.
