Michael Goyette

Pro guitarist Michael Goyette reacts to the mind-bending Tonight Show takeover by Angine de Poitrine! 🎸 When avant-garde math rock meets mainstream late-night television with Jimmy Fallon, absolute chaos and musical brilliance collide.

Angine de Poitrine completely disrupts the stage with insane, odd time signatures and complex microtonal melodies that shouldn't make sense—but somehow, they have never been so much fun to listen to! In this breakdown, we dissect the technical guitar work, unconventional scales, and the sheer energy of bringing microtonal music into the spotlight.
Are you a fan of progressive rock, math rock, or experimental music? What did you think of Jimmy Fallon's reaction to this performance? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!

I recently learned the taco-shaped stack of cymbals is called a "clap stack" to produce a hand-clap effect.
Im liking these guys more every time I hear another track, and hear delight-inducing new details every time I relisten to each track.
They're tickling my brain in nee ways I didn't know music still could any more.

I've listened to as much of their prior work as I can find and Khn normally plays standard guitar, baritone guitar (tuned to C), and bass with normal frets. He's just one amazing musician. They do everything from sludgy thick stoner mathpunk to avant garde Jazz fusion.

They just won a prestigious music prize in Canada; the Polaris Prize for both album (Vol. II) and best song for "Fabienk".

The Angine De Poitrine are so "Refeshingley" different and Bloody good Musisians to-boot ... I'm so over the claptrap rubbish that the Music Mogals dump on us daily . Real music thats imaginative and creative ....

I have noticed many guitar companies now offering microtonal guitars. It looks like a Godin guitar he is playing for this performance. It is just spectacular how much traction they are gaining. Very proud they won the Polaris Prize- so well deserved!

Micro tone makes the little noodles coil up tightly in your ear... just before the polyrhythmic beat eats your brain. It's like an alien brain sucking amoeba invaded your brain... and you like it.

I just noticed their eyes and pyramids flash on the downbeat of each loop in the middle section. Man are they wired up! More details to pay attention to...

I bet Khn's guitar teacher is so proud of him.

2:35 Yess its actually because of the way THEY do microtonality. They figured out a way to construct scales in 24tet which makes them sound very smooth and harmonically coherent. After hearing the harmonized lines in a soundcheck video weeks ago I obsessively worked on at "untangling" them. For those who are interested they look like this: https://m.youtube.com/shorts/H8y1ytnk3vk Thankss YO

Hey! This is my first time on your channel! I've watched many ADP react videos, and I think you deserve a trophy for the best ADP pronunciation!
"Goyette"... Idk if you're Quebecois (cause that's a French name) but if not, good job my friend. Bon vidéo!

Would love to see you react to Sherpa

The number 3 is a 'sacred number' in AdP lore, so no surprise that 9s figure in their time signatures. 3 squared is 9. Note that Khn's hat is a tetragonal pyramid. Do the math 🤣

That sound reminds me of King Crimson so much.

This song is all in 9s.

Just a heads up, The Tonight Show has been taking these videos down under copyright.

Well, that just happened again! I'm not really sure how to feel about it. I guess confused is the best word I can think of. In my head it doesn't make any sense, but it is still fun to listen to.YO.
