It's always so much fun watching someone discovering AdP! I love their intense focus, and equally intense friendship and mutual respect.

What we can't see is the huge grins behind the masks! 😊

None of us heard of these guys before this year. KEXP shot them out of orbit.

Angine de Poitrine’s costumes actually started as a joke. The two musicians were already playing together in another band in the Saguenay region (Québec, Canada). In 2019, they had just played a show at a local venue when they were offered another gig at the same place only a few days later.

Since Saguenay has a relatively small music scene, they figured people probably wouldn’t come back to see essentially the same musicians twice within such a short period of time. So they decided to perform their experimental microtonal side project completely disguised, under a different name, so nobody would know it was them.

They made huge papier-mâché masks, created bizarre costumes and covered everything in polka dots. What started as a prank — basically a way to play the same venue twice without the audience realizing they were the same guys — eventually became Angine de Poitrine’s permanent visual identity.

Over time, they also grew to enjoy the anonymity: on stage they can completely become Khn and Klek, while offstage they can simply go back to being ordinary people.
