Everything you said on your first encounter with the Tree Sentinel actually gave me so much hope for this run. “I’m probably not supposed to do this yet, but… it’s definitely possible” “I’m only doing light attacks because I don’t see openings for heavy attacks” like YES bro you already understand the game

hate when I find a new youtuber who is having their first time experience with something that I really like only to see that the video Is new and I cant just binge the whole series I gotta wait for future videos

This dude got his girl falling asleep on call while he's gaming. PUT A RING ON IT!

When you get knocked onto your butt, if you dodge roll, you get up faster.

That Impaling thrust just sitting there yawning, hungry for Margit's poise.

Really impressive showing from a first time player, it was fun to watch your first steps into the genre. One thing to note is that you basically never have to farm the same enemies over and over like you did at gatefront, because there are so many ruins, caves, and dungeons spread throughout the world to power yourself up. Anyway, i hope to see more of this, I love your humor and editing style.

Margit is a major filter and skill check. New players often quit because they can't beat him, even after leveling up a bit. A couple of mechanics that you aren't aware of (you complained a few times about them): Inputs are queued. If you press attack or dodge a second time during an attack or dodge animation, that next action will happen immediately afterwards. And there is no way to cancel out of animations. Basically, don't button mash, every input has to be deliberate. Also, stamina regen is severely slowed while your shield is up. You should only block when you need to, don't just hold the button down. Then you won't be guard-broken as often.

As a guard counter enjoyer, here's some tips that might help you:
First of all, take a look at your shield: you want to check the defense values, and there it'll show you how high that shield defends against each type of damage. The one you're currently using has 100% defense against physical attacks, but you were taking chip damage from Margit's magical sword because its magical defense was not 100%. So you might want to check those values and decide which boss attacks you're better off dodging instead of blocking.
Then, in that same window, you can see a line called "Stability": that number dictates how much stamina the shield eats up when you block an attack. The general rule is: the bigger the shield -> the higher the stability -> better stamina consumption rate. Upgrading a shield is only useful to upgrade the stability.

All in all, playing with guard counters against bosses is all about learning the moveset, blocking certain attacks, dodging the others, figure out when to drop the shield to let your stamina regen faster, block the very last hit of the attack chain and then counterattack.

Also as a general advice, level up your HP: having a larger pool helps a lot as you're figuring out the game.

This is a fun playthrough so far!

Pro tip: Your dodges have i-frames, so as long as your timing is good, it’s often very valuable to dodge toward an enemy, rather than away from them.

Whenever you’re dodging awsy from enemies, it gives them more time to continue attacking, while you try to get close to them again. Dodging toward them eliminates the time you spend walking back to them after a dodge, and lets you be more aggressive during an opening after an attack. It’s a good havit to get into.

I have around 600+ hours in Elden Ring and seeing someone just learning and figuring the game out is honestly really cool. I know this is better than my first playthrough already because I was too scared to even TRY fighting most enemies lol

Nah my favorite creator playing my favorite game this boutta be a banger

As a general tip "waiting for one specific attack before you counter attack" is a strategy that makes sense, and not a bad one per say. But like you pointed out it's also a good way to make all your bosses take half an hour each attempt. Which probably won't be very fun in the long run and might make you burn out. Other than that I recommend exploring more! The grace leads you towards story progression but there's so much else to see and do. And the more you explore the easier the game will be.

whenever I see some new player create their character a part of me hopes that they choose the "naked guy armed with a stick" class, because in a way it's the most fun one to play on a first playthrough. You start completely naked and with your stats evened out, so you really are a blank slate that evolves with every single item you drop. The Idus knight for example has such good equipment that you could go for the majority of the basegame without changing any of it. I'm not saying it's wrong to pick any other class, I'm just suggesting that you consider this option in future blind playthroughs of fromsoftware titles

Enjoy the game man! Your attempt at trying to beat the tree sentinel was really good actually, the rolls were timed really well and blocks and stuff. That was fun to watch. I have 250 hours in the game and have a few more bosses on my main to beat the game for the 2nd time. There’s stuff you find every new game that you didn’t find before, the game is massive.

A tip for bosses is that you wanna see their moveset like a flowchart. They have 'combo branching' where they can choose mid combo what to follow up with either randomly out of x number of branches or based on your positioning. You basically will have to learn and practice 'pattern recognition' for this to understand their behaviour.

And also experiment with your positioning as it influences their combo branching and behaviour. Many bosses like Margit make it difficult to stand close in front of em. This is often an incentive to strafe them and go behind em. Different bosses will have different positional demands. So look out for that. You may have noticed for example that you were able to cancel his combos or make him go neutral when you were far away. This is one way positioning influences boss behaviour. Margit's long overhead attacks are meant to be strafed so that you can punish him from behind and he doesn't spam combos.

You wanna use your player's toolbox to its potential more too. Try using dodge(with different directions), sprinitng, strafing around enemies, jumping, etc. Often you'll find it difficult to just use block unless you invest in block based build better. Also most bosses do give you heavy and charged heavy attack opportunities. You'll just have to look out for 'true combo enders' after which they don't immediately follow up with anything and you'll have a big window for attack. You'd have to trial and error a bit with these bosses to understand em better. You also wanna use the 'stance system' to your advantage as they give you riposte windows and a break from the pacing of the boss. Jump and charged attacks do great stance damage so that's you incentive to look for these windows.

For heal windows, you don't wanna heal in neutral as bosses often punish that. Instead you wanna heal in your attack windows. It's like how you exchange defense for offense in a turn based set up. True combo enders especially are best windows for healing.

I love seeing new "totally blind [fromsoftware game] playthru in 2026" type vids pop up in my feed! You have my ATTENTION with that impressive reading voice at 1:11 AND the description says you're running a charity fundraiser? Dude, I am SAT NOW.

Was craving this exact genre of video this morning. Thank you random guy on youtube for this gift

Little tip about rolling: rolling INTO attacks is often the best move: when you roll, you're invulnerable for a few frames, depending on what you have equipped (your equip load). Even you roll straight into a hit, as long as the timing's right, you won't get hurt. This allows you to stay close to the boss and punish the attack you've just dodged!

Hey Elden ring enjoyer here, it’s refreshing watching a new play through years after release keep on going. Only tips I’ve got are explore everything and anything. Limgrave has a lot more to it than meets the eye! Edit: in your options there is a way to turn on a recently found items tab which I believe is turned off by default. It makes actually knowing what you picked up that much easier.
