As for why you feel like you are doing less damage to EB, it's because fire damage is reduced in water (you fight the boss in an arena filled with water)
About the DLC, please do go and play it. Despite its shortcomings it is still worth a fully blind playthrough, go and enjoy it first before and don't feel pressured to keep uploading. Don't get burned out.
