honestly i cant even tell if the 2000s were epic or we just devolved so much even the average back then looks better

Remember when car and phone designs used to differ massively between manufacturers? And now they're all just identical monochromatic boxes?

The late 90's to early/mid 2000's was such a crazy time for culture in general. Man, I miss those years.

Consoles had just the right amount of power for devs to make the game they envisioned, but enough limitations that it still forced them to be creative.

2000s was peek of humanity in every way. since then we evolved backwards

Man nothing beats the feeling of buying a new game at the store and you'd be reading the box and manual on the drive home in the anticipation of playing it when you got there. It's sad I might never feel that again.

Who else really misses just the charm of older games? Like they just felt….. like they wanted you to play them without demanding it

Everyone chases realism nowadays, whereas the limitations of older games required more art and grit to pick up the slack of lesser graphics

2007 was not only a great year for consoles, but PC as well. It was the year that CRYSIS was released.

Reminds me how the early 2000s were so peak but then the decline of video games occurs in mid 2010s and it's terrifying how gaming were becoming less fun and more greedy.

This kills me because we will NEVER experience this again, gaming has gone totally corporate, it isn't about making memorable experiences now, it's all about the bottom line and how much money the publisher can drain from your wallet, we'll never experience the overwhelming joy and comradery of a midnight release because everything is going digital, it feels bad man, I'll always cherish growing up in this golden era, RIP

Crazy that games from 20 years ago are still being played and being recreated for modern consoles. 2000s was the last peak of games and culture.

In 2000's even music was on a peak.

Does anyone else remember Halo 3 double xp weekend on 7/7/7? I was 10, I had nothing going on the whole weekend besides gaming with the boys. I still think back and remember that weekend every year around July

2007 was peak human existence.  was also a great year for movies and the year the iphone launched.
The 2008 financial really did and still is wrecking us all.

Those warm tones also reduced anxiety and depression, something almost no one talks about.

It wasn't just games. Everything was cooler in the 2000s!

The 21st century had long been a domain for science fiction. It was "the future" for many generations, including mine when I was younger. And then, all of a sudden, it was here. The future was now the present. So, understandably, media, including games, was all about being as futuristic and cool as we always hoped that future would be. And you know, looking back, it kinda worked better than they planned. Because despite the 2000s being in the past now, they've always had an air of being more futuristic than the ideas of the future we have today. And being able to keep that feel in spite of the passage of time is a cool thing in and of itself ;)

Fun Fact about NSF MW: The reason why a used copy is so expensive on the Xbox 360, is because it is one of the only console games that have better graphics than the PC version. The PC version released a year earlier and was basically a PS2 port.

EA & Criterian wanted to make a definitive 'next gen' version - which only got released on the Xbox 360. There're more objects, better road textures, and WAY better lighting.

It's also one of the few games of that generation to have a performance mode/quality mode. If you lower your X360 resolution, you can get double the FPS. Go look up a side-by-side comparison video of PC VS X360 version. It's very interesting and it makes me glad to own a copy!
