Hi, it's me. The girl who got the stupid alien ending on her first playthrough and it was the nail in the coffin for me absolutely despising this game.

Alchemilla never showed up in SH2 and SH3. That was Brookhaven.

Dude my girlfriend got the ufo ending on her first run and she said “what the fuck is that it is this the end of game”

Scarlet's intro is still one of the best boss intros of all time. For me it's the bit where he asks for forgiveness. She cradles him for a moment like a doll, and for a split-second seems almost benevolent, then EATS HIS HEAD?? It's so fantastically brutal and spiteful. Absolute cinema

It seemed to me that Pyramid Head was thrown in very late in development. The contraption Alex's father was in was clearly designed to tear him apart, but instead Pyramid Head comes along and slices him in half.

I believe everyone always skips the mosnter design in this game. Which personally is like second fav to SH2.

Between this and your Downpour review you're becoming one of my favorites. Love how unbiased and casual you are with your analysis and I appreciate you not just blindly trashing these ones because they're post Team Silent. Looking forward to what you have cooking up

How does this only have 400 views? Bro released an entire movie and I am HERE for it😤

The reason why you find nurses in the hotel is because there was elderly man who was dying. You can find a delivery notice from the hospital there. There was some love triangle going on. Fun fact the nurses you find at the hotel seem to be more aggressive than other nurses you find in the game.

@1:26:55

Those scenes of random people being tortured in the hospital are actually recreations of all the first born children the Shepard’s Glen people murdered. The one being strangled (Judge Holloway’s daughter) the one being thrown in the hole (Mayor’s son) etc.

never thought about it before but if eddie can manifest a oizza then i guess alex can manifest fighting abilities

Honestly keeping Alex a soldier makes more sense than any explanation the game gave. Also feel making Alex his brother’s killer borrows too much from silent hill 2 in a sense. Instead his father killing Josh in desperation as a sacrifice because Alex ran away to join the military would make for a more tragic scenario.

As a result, pyramid head should be replaced by a manifestation of Josh’s anger towards his brother and father. Later twisted further by Alex’s guilt when he finds out why Josh was killed. Probably make a final encounter just before you get the choice on how to handle his parents.

There’s a lot of missed potential with the story.

Remember Tom Hulett did everything in his power to keep Pyramid Head out of this game and did his best to salvage a story out of the corporate meddling of Konami. He received a lot of undeserved blame for this game before Konami was exposed for being the monster that they were. A lot of the action aspects were forced due to Resident Evil adopting them and selling like hot cakes. Just here to remind people of that.

A year and a half later of this video’s release, with sweaty palms due to being stuck in a hot ass room, I came to an idea about how this game could’ve actually pulled off the reason for Pyramid Head to be here. In order for us to get into that, we have to understand a very special tweet made by Masahiro Ito about a painting within the Silent Hill Historical Society.

I recently did a character analysis essay of Pyramid Head in his original setting (SH2) in comparison to his main iterations from SH:Homecoming, the 2006 film, and the 2012 film. It led me down some interesting research regarding his design which had me come across a question regarding the “Misty Day, Remains Of The Judgement” painting within the Historical Society. That being that Masahiro Ito confirms that the painting is not altered at all by James’ delusions, that it exists within the “real world” and not an Otherworld delusion or alteration due to James’ deterioration of his psyche. Meaning that the Pyramid Head we see in SH2 isn’t a ground up conjuration, but rather just a distorted version of the figure he sees in the painting upon his first viewing. That initial viewing during his vacation with Mary, probably learning about the history of Silent Hill and the folklore, left a massive impression on him, and probably why he went back there in the first place after killing Mary. To seek Punishment of course, we all know this song and dance.

The reason why I bring this up is because in order for that painting to exist in the first place, it has to be regarded as a “HISTORICAL” documentation. This painting is a depiction of Silent Hill’s history, specifically in the context of its prison/punishment system. Similar to how we look back upon old American executions and trials (I.E. Salem Witch Trials, etc.) Which also means that this is historical documentation of the uniforms Silent Hill Executioners wore, which probably was related to the cult given how integral it is in Silent Hill’s history.

To now bring this information to Silent Hill: Homecoming, and how I think executing (haha) Pyramid Head’s inclusion would actually make sense for Alex, we have to utilize Alex’s trauma to our benefit. And I will be specifically using one of the first flashbacks we have, which is the scene of young Alex opening the door to his father’s secret butcher room and getting yelled at to not go in there. I think that, given now our understanding of Mr. Shepard’s role with the Cult, it would’ve been actually interesting if the parents, in typical cultish fashion, actually had sacrificial uniforms that were similar to the old Silent Hill Executioner uniforms. And Alex peeking into the room, actually saw the uniform in his line of sight that his Father had, which is why he was shooed away so aggressively. It would’ve also made sense for his father to have an Executioner role given how much of a military figure he is.

It would’ve explained why Pyramid Head/The Boogeyman’s look is an alteration to Alex. This is further expanded upon when you look at the different designs of the weapon PH/Boogeyman wields. Instead of being one half of a scissor in which the other half is intended for James to show a connection, it is this long combat knife-like sword. Which could just be a connection to Alex’s association with the look to his father who was so militant in parenting. The constant behavior of The Boogeyman where he is more aggressive in attacking and slaughtering is not to help Alex as PH does, but rather due to the perception Alex has of his father feeling as if he is inadequate. Better useful dead than alive. Just like all the people The Boogeyman kills because they did not meet his expectations, something Alex clearly struggles with due to how he is constantly dealing with the fact that all he wants to do is help those around him, but always falls short or makes things worse.

The over exaggeration of The Boogeyman’s body being this ripped, muscular body is a further exploration of male body imaging and how soldiers are expected to be these powerfully built machines capable of performing feats impossible for the average person. It is why it always felt odd to me that Alex wears this oversized trench coat instead of an actual military uniform. Making it feel like he may have some body dysphoria due to his mental illness probably extending into effecting his physical body, thus hiding it under large clothing that makes him look big and strong despite not actually being that way.

It could also be an extension of the “In Water” ending, that there is this repressed trauma throughout the story of finding more and more out on his own about his parents plan to sacrifice him as he grows up. But instead of knowing the full picture of it being for sacrificial reasons because Cult Stuff TM, in Alex’s perspective, it is that he believes he is being punished for not being a good enough son, which further supports his coping identity of being a soldier, someone who can absolutely defend themselves and others. It then supports the idea of The Boogeyman being a distorted personification of the terrible parent his father put him through, and how much he feared the day his dad was going to literally end his life.

I think that with this in mind, it allows this Pyramid Head to be a depiction of the fear of unjust punishment. Of children who cannot defend themselves and get abused over things they cannot control. It becomes this interesting foil to James’ Pyramid Head where that iteration is a Desire for Punishment, as opposed to Alex’s Pyramid Head who is an Abuser of Punishment.

I think that, if they actually put more time into the story, and actually thought for more than 3 seconds about putting Pyramid Head in the game, they actually could’ve come to an actual explanation, just how I just did right now.

I am unsure if this is gonna reach anyone here, I may post this on the silent hill forums because I find this interesting. But yeah. That’s my idea on how they actually could’ve pulled it off in a way that makes sense.

38:02 Silent Hill 1 did not follow that design. The monsters, and Otherworld had nothing to do with Harry, and everything to do with Alessa, specifically.

Of course, that doesn't change how stupid it is for Pyramid Head to show up in Homecoming.

The problem I have with this game is: This game had potential to be really good. I think the plot is decent, I like Alex as a character and I like the plotwist that Alex was never a soldier. Plus this game did imo a really good job with symbolism: for example the boss fights, Alex's family getting split in half, not just literally but figuratively speaking aswell. They were torn in two because even tho they were negliegent, hostile, impatient towards Alex, it was because they just didn't want to carry the massive guilt of killing their own son, so they treated him like he was not their child, even tho it pained them greatly. I like all these things, the design of the bosses were great, Alex as a protagonist is pretty good too. He is kinda like James and Henry put together (former being disconnected from reality and living a lie told by himself over and over again. The latter is the confused but overall well meaning silent type of dude lol.) Lots of the otherworld depiction was done fairly well, but unfortunately here is where my praises end.

Everything else is just bad. The endings are underwhelming. The gameplay, the puzzles, the combat, the graphics look way too outdated and not just now in 2024 but even for It's time is just very disappointing. The voice acting feels cheap, but not in a charming way that we, Silent Hill fans are used to. The fact that It's this easy to unlock endings, even Downpour a game that many fans say is the worst at least does this differently where how you are playing the game has effects on the outcome. The butchering of  Pyramid head as a character and It's purpose etc. I genuinely think this is the worst Silent Hill game and not Downpour, I may be a bit biased but even with It's flaws I still have a soft spot for Downpour.

this game is bad because Alex Shepherd went on a rant about silent hill 4 circumcision theory like a madman

I always had a soft spot for this game in general, both the art direction and otherworld aesthetics like Alex's home and hell descent segments, along with the boss fights and designs which imo are the best of the series followed by SH3's bosses, it all really worked back then very striking imagery and atmosphere for my younger self, and to be completly honest it's shortcomings are much more obvious to me now but I still love it lmao, I'm glad someone still cares enough to make such a video for it even though they don't see it in the same light as I do ^^

My theory for his combat is a mixture of the two theories; When he was a boy he and his brother were trained in combat by their father. So he might have developed muscle memory from it. But also he deluded himself as a soldier while in a mental ward, and since the town is shaped by your own mental state. The town probably use his muscle memories to help him fight and further think he is a solider, like how the town created Maria who was an ally to James. So the town giving him those skills because it’s a strong connection to his trauma makes sense to me, since the games gives the excuse of how Alex can fight back.

I think the twist that Alex was never in the army created several of plot holes, like how is he combat trained, then? why does he have that army jacket and medals when he arrives?(this one could be argued that those are his fathers but then it would make better sense if he change into these when he arrives to town
IMO if he was in the army for a time but was later dismissed due psychological problems (or something, I don't know how this works with more detail) maybe because he had a mental break due to his guilt of killing his brother, that would tie better
