Hitler's 9th Army Ceased to Exist at Bobruisk: 70,000 Trapped and Erased in 6 Days, 1944
On the twenty-sixth of June, nineteen forty-four, Hitler took away the one general who might have gotten the Ninth Army out.
In this video:
In late June 1944, Operation Bagration tore open the German front in Belarus, and the German 9th Army was caught east of the town of Bobruisk.
Two Soviet pincers, one from the north and one through marshland the Germans thought no army could cross, closed the ring around two whole corps in a pocket about twenty miles wide.
The 16th Air Army fell on the trapped column with more than five hundred aircraft.
Of the five divisions caught in the pocket, the largest group that reached German lines numbered about thirty men.
The 9th Army had ceased to exist, and within days the Red Army took Minsk.
