Hey everyone, Meta here with the generation 2 ROM hack mechanic ranking list! A list that I found difficult to make, mostly due to all of the choices of such amazing mechanics featured within all of the hacks I played. Thankfully as you can see I was able to come up with the list in the video!
I hope you enjoy!

Music used:
Final Fantasy 6 - Kids run through the city
Ape Escape - Time Station
Kirby Squeak Squad - Walk in the Afternoon
Pokemon Pinball - Blue Field Theme
Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire - Slateport city
Paper Mario - Flower Fields Rondo
Dokapon Kingdom - Lost Forest

Have a splendid day or night!

The concept for the player being locked into the gym was a concept I borrowed from a hack called Pokemon Pyrite. However, I made some changes to that system. In Pyrite, trainers you defeated would remain defeated while in Peridot, they will be reset each time you enter the gym. I also added the confirmation text before entering, to prevent the player from accidentally walking in.

Pokemon Pisces uses the gym mechanic but i think it's optional, maybe not, but it's a good time. Not teaching HM's go as far back as niche patches to emerald a long time ago, most hacks tend to use the idea though and very few just make them key items.

6:51 an old gold hack called xy naturia had that too

Another thing I like about polished crystal’s handling of HM moves is that they’re buffed - strength is fighting type with 80 base power, cut is steel type, etc. The HM moves are actually viable in battle now!

The problem I have with level scaling in crystal clear is that it doesn't apply to wild encounters. You can start in old cinnebar, and make your way to fuchsia city, and once you enter the safari zone, with no badges, and possibly little more than your starter, you get absolutely bodied by lvl 20+ encounters.

Ironically Pokemon Crystal Legacy didn't have that mechanic about the HMs that you dont need to teach to be used idea originally itself but, similiar to what I told you, is timelinewise from Vinemon. Cuz that feature already existed in the 2017/2018 demo.

Have you tried Pokemon Ambrosia? Its my personal favourite Gen 2 rom hack with tons of added mechanics, a new story line, higher difficulty, mixed pokemon from gen 1-6 and many more features..

it would have been cool if for 97' reforged they had different starting towns for both gold and silver, i doubt anyone would want to play silver 97 after playing gold 97 but if the other had a different starting location then i think they'd play both
