"He's an idiot, but he's my idiot"

That's actually really sweet

"Push on to Moscow...." Bloody hell, only Mark could somehow relate a weekend in the Quantocks with his girlfriend to Operation Barbarossa.

3:41 - "Let's just go anywhere, yeah?"

"What about here"

"Do you think? It looks a bit meh"

Painfully relatable.

Watching Season 3 again, it is clear that Sophie was trying to self-sabotage her relationship with Mark. At the end of season 2 she was hurt and in emotional turmoil after Jeff cheated on her, and she rebounded into Mark, who appeared to be completely devoted to her. That's why Season 2 Sophie is different to Season 3 Sophie. She knew her relationship with Mark would not work and it was a sham, but out of fear of being alone and childless she kept it on. However unconsciously she turned to a life that she knew Mark would be totally against: clubbing, drugs to drive him away from her. She even applied for the position in Bristol without telling him and barely kept in contact with him during her time there. In Season 4, Sophie even made the desperate last gambit of kissing Mark's best friend. This couple were doomed from the start and its a combination of both of their cowardice that they ended up at the altar - and even then they both still said "I do". Mark gets a lot of flak and deservedly so, but so should Sophie IMO.

If Mark was actually a fan of Hitch-hikers he would have leant into the odd couple encounter. Like when Arthur and Fenchurch were drinking at the pub and Antje from the kidney foundation was hassling him to buy a raffle ticket.
