Every animatics has Polites wearing a headband, and in almost every animatic until a certain point Odysseus wears it in remembrance. That is what Eurylochus was reaching for in Luck Runs Out to remind Odysseus what they lost because of this “open arms” approach.

I was watching another video where someone said Poseidon sounds like he's been gargling salt water for half his life, and I think that's a perfect way to describe his voice.

I would just LOVE to point out that when Poseidon says “I am your darkest moment” at 46:34 , that’s the SAME thing Odysseus said to the Cyclops.

Sorry chat I'm yapping but notice how Gigi draws Aoelus... At first, they're round and shorter, and in the more malicious/mischievous moments, they're more elongated and sharper. In art, circles convey friendliness and kindness, whilst sharper, harsher lines convey colder and more "evil" personalities. This can also be seen in their Poseidon design - he's all jagged, sharp edges and a darker blue, conveying danger compared to Aeolus's bright blue. UGHHH I LOVE ART

The reason why you hear so many harmonies while Eurylochus sings is because he is used as the voice of the crew. Jorge says that Eurylochus represents the crew and all their thoughts towards Odysseus. It's the other reason why you hear so many instruments bouncing around because he doesn't have just one instrument he has all the harmonies of the crew.

Trumpets are Poseidon's instrument. The piano is used often. Athena's instrument is the piano and it is used in songs where she doesn't appear but she is aware of what is going on (this is eluded to in the Wisdom Saga).

When Jorge read that the Wind God lived on a "floating" island he took it to mean that he was floating in the sky but really it is an island that is not anchored into the sea bed so it "floats" on the surface of the sea and moves (generally pushed by the wind)...but his interpretation is fun and fantastical.  Shout out to the animator that obscured Telemachus' face in "Keep your friends close" since Odysseus has not seen him since he was an infant and could not even imagine what he looked like when he was dreaming.

Fun fact!
People originally didn't like Neal's version of Poseidon due to the way they designed him. It wasn't until after the success of Neal's version of another song in act two did people come around to the dad rock vibes of this Poseidon.
PERSONALLY Neal's ruthlessness is a favorite of mine so I am glad people came around on the design because they put a lot of time and effort into their work!

Something I've never once seen anyone point out about the storm animatic, is the fact that OMG THE PEOPLE THROWING SPEARS ARE IN A CLASSIC GREEK SPEAR THROWING POSE. Like look at any greek vase depicting soldiers throwing spears and its that exactly

In “Ruthlessness”, when the piano comes into the music, Poseidon is basically reiterating what Athena was trying to tell Odysseus in “Remember Them” — That killing the cyclops is better than leaving him alive and blind. Athena wanted Odysseus to kill Polyphemus, and Poseidon is left with his honor and reputation bruised because of it because unbeknownst to Odysseus, not killing Polyphemus and blinding him instead was a manner of mocking Poseidon. He scolded Odysseus that he DIDN’T kill him (“I mean you totally could have avoided all this had you just killed my son, but no…”)
HOPE THIS HELPS! ❤

So fun fact: The hair grab at 23:43 is Eurylochus  grabbing Polities's headband... the one Ody took from his dead body

Poseidon: Do you know who I am? 😠

Tim, looking panicked: No 😰

That made me cackle.

"...and not one of them died *there*"  The "there" doing a LOT of heavy lifting in that sentence. 😅

ALSO ALL HAIL NEAL ILLUSTRATOR GIVING US MUSCULAR HUNKS SINCE FOREVER

This was great! The leitmotif you were wondering about in “Storm” was… the divine storm itself! Which comes up a few times (it came back in “keep your friends close” for example). The brass is Poseidon, and the brass in the storm indicates that it’s indeed a storm sent by Poseidon. (“Is it nature or divine” asks Odysseus in Storm)

When Poseidon says "The line between naïveté and hopefulness is almost invisible"- he's sorta saying "you really think id accept that?" and that Ody is being so hopeful/naive to the point where he's being foolish and unrealistic, not understanding the ignorance of being so trustful that Poseidon would accept the apology.

I LOVE THIS MUSICAL SO MUUUUCCCCH, also love learning about the vocals of each person- Keep up the good work!!

23:57 Eurylichus was actually gesturing to the headband that this animator had Poilites wear, so when he died, Ody put it on. Many animators do their own thing with side characters and motives

Fun fact: the little snowmen looking guys are called Winions (Wind Minions) and they are voiced by Jorge if I remember correctly LOL

The more intimate tone also makes sense for the characters because 1) Eurylochus is the second in command and trusted by Odysseus and 2) is Odysseus’ brother in law. Probably not as close as he was with Polites, but close.
